I was skeptical about the incl. of Hue. After seeing him perform, I think he did satisfactory.

I tell them all the time. Football is about maximising your strength and limiting your weakness. The fact is Hue is one of 11 players and for most part he did his job.

You will hardly likely find the prototype midfielder in numbers. Yes it was sad that Rudi didn't get to play. If he did he would have covered a lot of defensive lapse. Watson seems like the prototype midfield but the fact is currrently he has mastered nothing. He hasn't masterd the offensive side or the defensive side of the game.

As I said before the game prove that without Hue, Demar Phillips and Dane we have no player who can play from left to right, can attack and change the game and provide puzzle for the opposing defense. I won't even talk about Keith Kelly, why? Becuase of the personal choices he made.

As for Taylor he was put there to cover when Demar goes forward. WE have a choice of playing Demar higher and finding a proper left back but we can't use him as leftback without any cover because he goes in the attacking third a lot.

        Well it says ......
        1. that ONLY at that time can Tappa temporarily put aside his "bitterness', for Hue, and call him to the team. Which speaks volumes about the coach's team selection policy. Tappa lives in Jamaica and should be able to see Hue's performance every week.

We will more than likely not find an attacking midfielder to do defensive work. You will find one that can push a foot or run into defensive position but most attacking midfielders just do that defensive work.

You know I try and usually give the coaches a bly but the way how Hue play and it wasn't great by no means, there is no reason why he shouldn't be in the squad. He showed that he can contribute and that he could get better with a few more run.

We don't just need a wall but we need people who think on their feet and make good decision with the ball. At least Hue was changing the ball from wing to wing and was making himself an option for the pass. Something some of the "wall" could learn.

When I see people like you and Karl say that Hue played satisfactorily, then it says a lot! Unnu need fi see him play for HV week in week out. So much better than what he did on Friday. Indeed, had I not known his abilities, I would have been quite disappointed with his performance against Guatemala!

For all the Hue-hayters, this may just be the very last time we see him in a national jersey, if we don't advance.

We have wronged this fantastic player for years. In the meantime, we have denied ourselves a Hex appearance over the last 2 WCs, maybe 3!

                    Stonigut: Agreed! ...but...

                    You are correct.
...and I also agree with "Tappa" and if the below article is true to Alfredo Montesso, I also agree with him.

1st - We 'baaal' dem...but were not good enough to win. Simple - they scored twice, we scored once.

2nd - On the first goal we made a ton of defensive mistakes.
...and on the second goal we were, as it is for my other beloved team - The GUNNERS - at set pieces we concentrate firstly on defending (man marking opponents is the mantra - (Incidentally that I have always thought of the first option as nonsense...) - and after we think of attacking the ball.
It should always be the reverse - First observe flight of ball and if on attacking same the player's determination is - impossible to get to FIRST..then and only then it must be preventing or making it difficult for your opponent from physically getting to the ball.

It is damn simple - forget all the nonsense about 'jocking your man'... -
a goal cannot be scored save THE BALL enters goal!!! ...so it must be 'ball' first.

We did not have even one of our defenders attack the ball. Hey the ball traveled the great distance from the corner-circle to our goal-area. If the attacker could attack it. so could at least one of our defenders!!!

                    The article:

GUATEMALA City, Guatemala — Jamaica's Reggae Boyz bossed Friday night's crucial encounter against Guatemala in their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Play-off Series and didn't deserve to lose.

That's the view of Alfredo Montesso, assistant coach of the team, when he spoke to the Jamaica Observer a few hours after the game at the team's Hotel Vista Real base.

The Boyz rallied from a 16th-minute Carlos Figueroa strike to level the score in the 61st via a Luton Shelton penalty, but misfortune struck five minutes from the end when captain Carlos Ruiz popped up to glance home a firm header to give the Central Americans all three points.

"I thought the team played well and they didn't deserve the result that they got," Montesso said.

But the Brazilian was quick to point out that a few elementary mistakes did not help their cause. He lamented that some players didn't recognise the tone of the game and didn't make the necessary adjustments in such a hostile environment.

"I think that we have to learn the lesson because when you play away... it is something that you have to make adjustments... I think that we held on to the ball too much sometimes, though we received some fouls that the referee never gave."

He was referring specifically to the play at the end when Shelton lost possession and Gregory Ruiz launched a long range shot which Dwayne Miller mishandled, resulting in the corner which led to the winning goal.

"When you play away you to have to identify those situations and adjust and be more consistent, so the result is not something that we were expecting... but I don't think it is over yet, as it will be very difficult for Guatemala to play in America, but we have to play our part in Jamaica by beating Antigua by at least three goals," he said.

The United States, who defeated Antigua and Barbuda (A&B), 2-1, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium Friday, and Guatemala are joint top of the four-team Group A with 10 points, three ahead of Jamaica, with A&B at the bottom with one point.

The leaders have identical goal averages of +3, while Jamaica currently have a zero goal average. A victory for Jamaican on Tuesday by at least three goals and any loss in the other tie will see them advancing to the final round of six teams, where three gain automatic berths to the Brazil 2014 World Cup Finals, and the fourth-placed team engage in a two-way tie with the winner of Oceania.

Montesso was also at a loss to explain the sluggishness of some players in the early stages of the game.

"I think that was another piece of the game that we paid the price for, not to be focused. They had a few occasions when they had control of the ball in front of our goal and we never attacked them for the ball and we had to adjust that during the game with Jason (Morrison) and Taylor (Jermaine) in midfield when we pushed them a little bit in front and we started to get control of the second balls and then we were able to control the game in midfield and we started to create those chances.

"Unfortunately, I think we should have got some more from this type of game because many times we got in good positions in front of goal to finish (score), and I really didn't want to talk about it, but we really missed Austin (Rodolph, who was recovering from an ankle injury) in this game because he has been finishing really well."

According to Montesso, the coaching staff and the players are gutted by the inability of the team to hit the target, which ultimately led to
                    the defeat.

"It's very disappointing for us as coaches, but it's very disappointing for them as players as well because we spoke a lot before the game and at half-time and after the game and said they should have been more calm and relaxed when we got inside the 18-yard box.

"But sometimes we just want to finish with one touch and sometimes that is not possible and therefore we needed to be more calm and patient and finish this ball inside with two touches, but we didn't.

"They were really disappointed after the game because they felt that they played a good game and when you... don't get the result that you need you feel disappointed.

"But this is football and we paid the price... but we still have our hopes in this game against Antigua and wait for what is to come from the game with Guatemala and America."

The assistant coach said he is confident the team will rebound against A&B next Tuesday because of the manner in which it is beginning to create goalscoring opportunities.

"What really gives us the confidence is the number of opportunities that we created against Guatemala, so if we push the game in that direction and we create as many chances... we hope to capitalise on some more of them.

"This is what we are going to concentrate our efforts on in training, but it will not be easy because Antigua almost drew with the US. They are a very organised team, but I think we have to push when we play at home because we have 100 per cent win record at home and we have to try to continue that," he added.

Morrison, who picked up a yellow card caution in the 76th, is suspended for Tuesday's game, having already been cautioned in the 90th+ against A&B on June 12.

However, Austin and Adrian Mariappa, who both missed the game through injuries, should return and Montesso revealed that a couple of locally-based players will be added to the 23-man roster as Kavin Bryan was also ruled out of Friday's game with an injury.

The team was scheduled to return home last evening after departing Guatemala City in two batches for Miami. They will go directly into camp in preparations for Tuesday's last shot to salvage the Brazil 2014 World Cup Finals.

Conclusion: - Based on our performance in this match against Guatemala I do believe that we can create enough chances to win by 3 or more clear goals. Our players must forget all else and concentrate on moving the ball a little faster (make decisions faster and immediately execute the pass) ...improve on accuracy of passes...and improve finishing!!!

Hue showed he can be much better at pushing our attack but against the faster Antigua and Barbuda players, his teammates must use their (common)sense and pass to his feet...do not have him moving an inch before the ball hits him!!! ...and Hue must then 'put the strings' immediately. That would prevent Hue being closed down - the little movements he would have to make is key - the opponent does not 'live' in his brain and therefore has to react after Hue has made his little move...the delivery of the ball to him (the use made of those little windows before the opponent can get to him is vital)...by his teammates must be sharp with pin-point accuracy.

I take back what I said about Hue just based on the poor technical ability of his teammates and the level of the opposition (******** poor) as when we move to the Hex...and to the higher level of the World Cup finals his pace cannot be compensated for as at this extremely lower level. The point is our all players can improve technical skills and use of commonsense...and so can Hue...but...Hue cannot raise speed of movement across ground to be on par with or prevent closing down by the much faster thinkers, movers and tremendously higher technical skilled players he shall meet in the Hex...forget at the World Cup finals. Hue, I watch carefully and he operated at FULL Speed of thought and movement across ground. He has nothing more to give. The most of the others of our players are fast enough...just lacking in necessary technical skills. Each can...and the technical staff can work on improving in that area.

These other guys could have been...can become excellent team! Just do it!

Aside:To return to the coming match - Will our winning by 3 goals be enough? Hey! ...a draw in that USA vs Guatemala game will sink us.

According to Stoni, there is no place in the game for the Ininestas, Verons, Kakas, Requememes etc.

I thought Hue played well and did what he was called to do.

At the end of the day if you score one goal and shut down the other team you win, in the past we have been able to befuddle guat, they cannot move the ball into the final 30 to 35 with any kind of coherence, Watson much as he has not produced on the offense has been a busy bee, we need all mids to be busy bees for Jamaica to win through the hex, our football culture has not evolved into a true and consistent style and system of play and the guys have not blended into such a unit, thus we must derive an advantage from somewhere else it is speed, it s fitness it is the interception mindset, the all hawk mindset, we have seen Ja play some ball recently where they seem to win every 50/50 ball, the aggression the mindset is sharp and tight, if we play a skilled team like Spain it is the speed and the physical hard play that will let us keep competitive nothing else. We cannot afford players who lay bak just fr the occasional great pass and still at the end of the day it is unfair to him to expect some magic as he has never showed that he can do it consistently enough to make even a second div team in a pro league country sign him up. At the end of the day if no one thinks you are good enough to pay you to play ball everyday why do we think that guy should be our number one attacking mid, it makes no sense at all.

Mike McCallum and shrimphy Clarke dominated the local scene first then went outside and competed against the best, people paid them to fight all ore the world because they showed they can do that, they produced on the battleground, how can we take someone who struggles to compete outside Ja and then try to make them the centerpiece of out international World Cup effort, it is illogical.

On one point, everybody loses the ball sometime, sometimes stupidly, but it is not the losing that is the real issue, it is the response after, you will see Austin go to the gates of hades chasing down a play, Watson also is very active and you see the fighter in him all the time, it is the lack of response is what the issue is, the defensive non response, we cannot affford that kind of player.

You have been a consistent and strident detractor of Maestro, so respect for taking back some of your criticism.

However, to say that Hue "has nothing more to give" is just not true, but can be excused because you do not have the pleasure of seeing him do his thing for HV each week. Friday's performance by Hue was certainly one of the slowest I have seen from him in recent times, and that has to do with both decision-making and "over ground". It was clear to me that this was a result of his unfamiliarity with his teammates.

So, don't put yourself again into a position where I can say, I told you so! Hue can do much better than what you saw on Friday. Let's hope he brings it on Tuesday.

He played ok on offense but the hole left by Austin was not filled, better to stop the two goals if we can score one, that is the bottom line, typically guat has not been able to solve Ja speed, size and defensive shape, well we give them a gift and them take it. For each and every action there is an equal an opposite reaction, take out maps and put in shavar, lose some there, take out Austin and put in Taylor lose Nuff there, Taylor good but he is more of a hold down space than a marauder type which Austin is. Take out Watson and put in hue you think you gain something in passing but in reality what you lose is a fighter and busy bee, shutting down space keeping guat mids off balance, defense starts outside the fort not inside the fort.

And you know what, I agree with you. But until we have someone who can supply quality attacking balls like Jermaine Hue, what is the option - putting in 10 Watsons whose fast, furious and many times foolish play gets us nowhere?!!?

Some feel defence wins matches. Well, despite what Chelsea accomplished last season, I don't think any team can defend successfully for 90 minutes. We are going to need some offence somewhere along the line.

So, that is probably where we disagree, Stoni. I want someone who can create goals on my team. You want a team that can defend all day. For me, I will always use a Jermaine Hue until someone better comes along. The other 10 players better tun up dem defensive skills to compensate. Indeed, many of those players we relied upon for bringing sound defensive skills failed us miserably last Friday! Don't blame it on Maestro!
