Hue, Phillips back, as Lewis joins big Boyz

Hue, Phillips back, as Lewis joins big Boyz

            Saturday, October 06, 2012

Harbour View midfielder Jermaine Hue was rewarded for his fine start to the 2012/2013 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) with a recall to the Reggae Boyz squad which will face Guatemala in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

The 34-year old, who last represented Jamaica in a friendly international against Cuba in February, has been included in a squad of 24, which will travel to Guatemala on Monday for next Friday's qualifier.

Hue, highly regarded by some and viewed as the creative midfielder that the coaching staff has said is missing from national set up, has been in fine form for his club in a more advanced role and has scored four goals to be second on the goal scoring list.

Also making a return to the Reggae Boyz unit is the attacking left-wingback Demar Phillips. Phillips, who scored the opening goal in Jamaica's 2-1 win over Guatemala when both teams met in Jamaica in June, last represented the country in Jamaica's 0-0 draw away to Antigua in a World Cup qualifier also in June. He missed both of the country's qualifiers against the United States due to an injury.

In addition to Hue and Phillips, another name that could excite is that of St George's College schoolboy Andre Lewis. The 18-year-old midfielder who was a part of Jamaica's Under-17 team which qualified for the Under-17 World in Mexico last year and was one of two Jamaicans to score, is regarded as one of the best young talents in the country.

Lewis is the current captain of his school's Manning Cup team and was a part of the school's triple championship winning team of 2011. He is currently a part of the country's Under-20 team.

The members of the party who are currently in Jamaica will leave the island on Monday morning.

Full Squad: Goalkeepers — Dwayne Miller, DuWayne Kerr, Jacomeno Barrett; Defenders — Jermaine Taylor, Shavar Thomas, Dicoy Williams, Nyron Nosworthy, Adrian Marriappa, Demar Phillips, Lovel Palmer, Andrae Campbell; Midfielders — Rodolph Austin, Jason Morrison, Je-Vaughn Watson, Ewan Grandison, Joel Senior, Andre Lewis, Jermaine Hue; Forwards — Dane Richards, Omar Cummings, Ryan Johnson, Tramaine Stewart, Luton Shelton and Kavin Bryan.
