One more game then Jack’s back

JACK WILSHERE still needs another reserve game before he is ready for the Arsenal first team, according to boss Arsene Wenger.

The wonderkid, 20, has been making his comeback in the club’s Under-21 team in the last few weeks after 14 months out with an ankle injury.

Stuart Pearce wants to take Wilshere with England U-21s to the Euro 2013 finals in Israel next summer.

But Wenger believes the midfielder should focus on making his senior comeback for his club.

The Frenchman said: "It's a bit premature. Let's wait until Jack comes back. He has not played for 14 months.

"He works very hard and is doing well but let's not go too far."

He added: “He needs one more game, maybe on Monday night for the U21s, then he will be back.”

When asked whether Wilshere would be afraid of going into challenges after his injury, Wenger replied: “There is no apprehension. He is 80 per cent match fit.”

Wilshere’s England colleague Theo Walcott — who is still yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners — will miss Arsenal’s clash with Norwich this weekend after his injury picked up with England.

Walcott claimed he felt like he had been “hit by a bus” when he suffered a bruised lung in the World Cup qualifier against San Marino last week.

Wenger said: “Walcott is out because of the lung problem. His injury is progressing well and there’s a chance he could be back next week against QPR.

“The challenge on him was scary. He said it felt like a lorry had hit him.”

One player Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson has earmarked as a future England player is Gunners right-back Carl Jenkinson.

The ex-Charlton full-back has been making great strides this season at the Emirates but Wenger believes a national call-up could be a bit too soon.

Wenger said: “He’s developed extremely well. I like the way he sees things. England is a bit early for him.”

Laurent Koscielny will also miss Saturday's trip to the Canaries

Jack named in Arsenal Squad

Jack Wilshere will be in Arsenal's squad to face Norwich on Saturday, according to the midfielder's agent.

The 20-year-old has been out for 14 months following ankle surgery after sustaining an injury in July 2011.

However, earlier on Friday, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said the Capital One Cup tie at Reading on 30 October was a more realistic target for a return.

Wenger said: "[Wilshere] needs one more game, maybe Monday night with the reserves against Everton."

Wilshere, who has not played since a European Championship qualifying match for England against Switzerland in June 2011, enjoyed 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Chelsea on Wednesday.

And the midfielder's agent Simon Bayliff said on Twitter: "It's been two 'good news' days in a row. Doesn't happen very often. Jack travels to Norwich in the #AFC 1st team squad! Delighted."

Meanwhile, Gunners goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for three months after injuring ankle ligaments.

It means Arsenal will continue to rely on third-choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone after Polish international Fabianski, 27, suffered an ankle ligament injury in training on Tuesday.

"He will have surgery but [Wojciech] Szczesny comes back in two weeks," said Wenger.

Fabianski has not played for Arsenal this season because of a back injury and was close to a first-team return before suffering another setback.

Jack Wilshere finally made his return for Arsenal against QPR.

After missing the past 524 days with ankle and knee injuries, the England midfielder was handed a surprise start at the Emirates Stadium
Wilshere gave a promising performance in front of the delighted home fans and stung the palms of goalkeeper Julio Cesar with a 19th-minute drive.

Offering some nice touches, Wilshere was a calm figure in the centre of the pitch, although there was an injury scare shortly after a rough challenge from Esteban Granero.
After the match, boss Arsene Wenger said: 'I made the decision without telling him because when you have not played for such long time it is not always easy to deal with that and there is a high level of expectation when he goes on the pitch.

'I told him he was playing at 10.30am today. Sometimes I think it is better when you don't have much time to think about it when you have been out for a long time.

'I also felt the confidence of the team was a bit jaded and sometimes player with experience and quality give a bit of a lift as well.'

Wenger felt Wilshere came through the game with a lot of credit, going up against a combative QPR midfield of Samba Diakite and Esteban Granero.

'You could see technically he is there, and he gave everything, but what is missing he will get through competition,' said Wenger.

'Jack still misses a bit of the pace of the game, the rhythm of the game, but overall what he did was class.'

Wenger, however, will attempt to ease Wilshere back into full-time action, and so will be rested for the midweek's Capital One Cup tie at Reading.

'We have to see how he responds. After such a long time out, it goes a bit up and down. What is good is that he got kicked today and had no problem. The rest will come with the games,' he said.

'Now, after a game like that, I will certainly not play him on Tuesday [against Reading in the Capital One Cup]. Will I play him [at Manchester United] next week? I don't know.'

Eventually, Wilshere was substituted in the 67th minute to a standing ovation - replaced by fellow England international Theo Walcott.

Wilshere, 20, was set for the bench but boss Arsene Wenger decided to throw him into the starting XI in a bid to changes Arsenal's fortunes.
The youngster was an unused substitute in the defeat at Norwich last week. Arsenal lost that match as well as the following Champions League game against Schalke on Wednesday.
Bacary Sagna was also included at right-back after recovering from a broken leg in the penultimate game of last season.
