: Sky sources say that Liverpool offered only £4m for Dempsey or a swap deal involving Charlie Adam or Jordan Henderson. Fulham apparently said no to Adam and Henderson said no to Fulham. It's left Liverpool with a massive shortage of goalscorers.

20.40: So Clint Dempsey could be stuck at Fulham after turning down a move to Aston Villa earlier in the day. He might have a whole lot of grovelling to do.
