Goodbye Alberto: Liverpool get rid of £20m flop Aquilani

Brendan Rodgers decides to cut his losses and get rid of the midfielder who has struggled at Anfield

Albert-go? Aquilani spent most of last season on loan at AC Milan
Liverpool have agreed to offload Italian flop Alberto Aquilani to Fiorentina for £7million, according to The People.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers shipped out the midfielder to the Serie A side as he quickly looks to put his own stamp on the squad.
Aquilani has been a disaster for Liverpool since arriving for £20m from Roma in 2009. After struggling for fitness and form, he was loaned out to AC Milan last season.
The midfielder has played in a couple of pre-season games but did not figure in Rodgers’ plans for next season. Rodgers also wants to make way for a new midfield capture – and 28-year-old Aquilani’s £100k-a-week wages going off the payroll will help.
The new Anfield chief is keen to push on with a bid for Swansea’s Team GB midfielder Joe Allen but will not meet the Swans’ £15m valuation.
Rodgers hopes he can land Allen for around £9m and find a way round his ‘vow’ of not going back to the Welsh club for players. The Allen move will also be difficult as Swansea want a replacement teed up first.
Bolton’s Mark Davies is in their sights, despite him being labelled ‘not for sale’.

Aquilani's Mersey hell finally over as Liverpool agree deal with Fiorentina for Kop flopBy Sportsmail Reporter

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle says the Serie A club has signed Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool.

The Italy international failed to settle on Merseyside after moving there from Roma in 2009 fora fee of £20million.

Aquilani had two loan spells away from the club, first at Juventus and then last season at AC Milan.
The 28-year-old has, though, spent the pre-season with Liverpool, but has flown back early from the club's tour of North America to complete his move to La Viola.
Thanks for nothing: After three miserable years, Alberto Aquilani has left Liverpool

A statement on club website said: 'Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that Alberto Aquilani has completed a permanent transfer to Serie A side Fiorentina.

'The Italian midfielder joined Liverpool in 2009 but made just 28 first-team appearances having spent the last two seasons on loan in his homeland.

'Everyone at the club would like to wish Alberto all the best for the future.'

Also in Italy, newly-promoted Sampdoria will start its first season back in Serie A with a one-point penalty for match-fixing after its plea bargain was accepted on Friday.

Serie B club Bari has been deducted five points and fined £68,000. Atalanta defender Andrea Masiello has been banned for 26 months for offences during his time at Bari.

Former teammates Alessandro Parisi, who is now with Torino, and Marco Rossi, now at Cesena, have been suspended for 24 months and 20 months, respectively.

This will prove to be Rodgers first mistake. He's trying to find money for Dempsey and lighten the wage bill so understandable, but watch Aquaman shine for La Viola. Me seh so.

Do you consider his performance for AC Milan "shining"? I don't. He did much better at Juve. That said, it is more about the coach and the coach's confidence in him that drives him on. Watch this space.

He shined in some games for them and didn't in others. Played well for years at Roma and was good at Juve. Not hard to figure he should be good. However, he can say some way out things every now and then and Fiorentina fans can turn on people, so him better careful...
