Professional football in South Africa will soon welcome a new face. Norwegian Kjetil Siem is set to take over the reigns of South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL) as its new CEO, it was announced yesterday at the PSL headquarters in Johannesburg.
Siem has established himself in the commercial and developmental aspects of football and enjoyed success at Valerenga, and he will be looking forward to continuing the recent strides taken by the PSL. After all, the new CEO takes over from Trevor Phillips, who has been instrumental in transforming professional football in South Africa, making the PSL one of the highest revenue-generating professional leagues in Africa.

Siem also forsees the PSL having a role to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. At his introductory press conference, he stated that: "We must show the world that South Africa shall not only organise the next World Cup in 2010, but the way the PSL and the clubs are meeting the new and digital media world in a world-class manner."

Siem will be leaving his current job as the CEO of the Norsk Toppfotball to take up his new post in South Africa on 1 August 2006.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
