Taking over: Fabio Capello is set to be named as new Russia boss
Fabio Capello is on the brink of making a return to management with Russia.
The Russian FA’s vice-president Nikita Simonyan has revealed that the former England boss is their choice to take the job.
And speaking on Monday, Capello is hopeful the deal will go through.
'If everything is completed in the best possible way, as the announcement from the Russian Federation states, I will be happy and proud,' Capello told Italian news agency ANSA.
'If, as I believe the case will be, all goes as planned in terms of the contract, it will be a splendid adventure. 'Russia are a great nation.'
Capello quit England in February in protest at John Terry being stripped of the captaincy by FA chiefs.
Simonyan told the Itar-Tass agency: ‘Today we have decided to name Fabio Capello as the manager of Russia. We are now waiting in Moscow for the finalisation of the remaining details of the contract before he signs.
‘Once (Capello) and his representatives arrive, we believe they will sign the contract. I think it will happen on Wednesday or Thursday.’
Capello takes over from Dick Advocaat after he was named at the top of the Russian Football Union’s list of potential candidates.
The Italian has been offered a lucractive six-year contract to take him through to the 2018 World Cup, which Russia are hosting.
The 66-year-old will attempt to revive the national team after their embarrassing group exit at Euro 2012.
