Spain is a confederation.

What you speak of affects the southern half of Spain and is centred in CORDOBA. That was the Moorish capital and centre of Euro civilization in the Dark Ages or thereabouts, some 5-600 years ago. Jews, Moslems and Christians, lived peacefully in relative prosperity then.

I was in Cordoba for WCup 1998 finals and did visit the Mesquita. Cordoba was licking 45 degrees in the day. Hot like the dickens.

Not really relevant for Catalunya, Pais Vasco, Galicia, etc.

North African teams have IMO played an attractive brand of football but they have not made the impact that the Afriacans south of the Sahel have made... although they are "soccer mad" people...
