Monte was the best Italian player on the day. He set most of the chances , made some telling passes and nearly scored with that bomber in the 2nd half.

Yes it was a big mistake. I was very surprised to see him coming off. Thought it may have been possible that Marchisio was coming of, but or even one of the more defensive players, but certainly not Montolivo.

And it's not just taking off Montolivo, it's who he put on in his place: Motta.

Why not a forward when you're 2-0 down?

And if you want to put on a midfielder then why not one with more attacking qualities like Diamanti or Nocerino? Doesn't make sense...
