    Boyz back in action

The Jamaica Football Federation today announced two international friendly games featuring the National Senior Men’s Team, the Reggae Boyz to be played in March.

The first game features Jamaica vs. Switzerland on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 7:15pm at the Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Switzerland is currently ranked 14th in the Coca-Cola FIFA World Rankings, moving up three (3) places since January. Switzerland has qualified to the World Cup Finals seven (7) times and exited from the 2nd round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The second game is a “Digicel International Match” and features Jamaica vs. Panama on Monday, 26 March 2007 at 8:00pm at the National Stadium.

Digicel International Matches are friendly football games organised by Digicel throughout the Caribbean and Central American region to provide teams in the region with increased international experience as well as to provide fans with more opportunities to watch their respective teams in international action.

Panama is currently ranked 74th in the Coca-Cola FIFA World Rankings, moving up six (6) places since January. Panama team finished second in the Digicel Cup of Nations for Central America, losing to Costa Rica on penalties. Panama, who also reached the finals of the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, has not lost a match in their last three encounters.

The Senior team trains on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 9:00am and 4:00pm at Brancourt in Clarendon. The full list of invitees to the training camp, inclusive of overseas based invited players, will be released on Tuesday, March 13.

The continued actions of the JFF on making late announcements about upcoming football matches is saying fr@#$%&amp;^%k the fanz, we care little for you. That translates into to hell with the sponsors and the advertisers. It certainly means all avenues are not be used to full advantage to 'fast forward' development of the football.

It should not take rocket scientists to realise that filling stadia has more and more persons and entities fastforwarding promotion of 'di brand Jamaica football'.

It should not take rocket scientists to realise that promotion of 'di brand Jamaica football'results in easier sell of that brand and therefore greater financial and personal rewards for those who toil in'di Jamaica football industry' and the country. What then causes this perpetuation of spurningpromotional opportunities?

Yet, I am encouraging all of us to call as many persons as we can and promote support for 'di football/di matches'. Yes, even as it appears we are not wanted...our helpand support is not wanted, let us support. It is a fact, that administrators come and administrators go...but, our football...our Jamaica football industry...we should all work hard at making bigger, better and increasingly more successfulas time moves on. Hey! ...some may not see the possibilities for our people but it is there 'smashing us across the face...right before our eyes'.

        SUPPORT!

        FORWARD!

Karl, I was seriously thinking of making the trip down to Florida. I think that such short notice, I cannot fit it into my plans. For one thing, it is a challange to make arrangements at such short notice and not have to pay an arm and a leg to get a plane ticket. The bad planning alsso meansI canot take time off either as I cannot just drop what I am doing to take time off t make the trip.

Wouldn't it be good to be able to know 3 to four months in advance that a match will be held at this place between the Reggae Boyz and another team? We see teams like the USA and Canada have such a system in place. Take a look at the USA's schedule for gamescoming up:

I was really hoping you could make it...but, I understand.

I really cannot see what the problem is that prevents us from having in place a schedule of matches. Wouldn't that having a schedule make life easier for 'selling'to fanz, sponsors, advertisers, sports bars, cable television, pay-per-view outlets, TV rights etc...market the product "REGGAE BOYZ" and thus make real money? ...not to mention provide that 'diet of international matches' that would make our TEAM, with good managers, climb towards TOP OF THE WORLD?

It is a matter of lack of forward thinking. There is obviously no planning for the long term. The people running the JFF only see things into the next two weeks.

That's what greeted the Reggae Boyz when they arrived here yesterday, two days ahead of their friendly international against Switzerland at Lockhart Stadium at 7:15 pm (6:15 local time).<P class=StoryText align=justify>The consistent showers, cool climes and gusty winds that swept South Florida most of yesterday kept the team battened down in their hotel rooms at Fort Lauderdale Sheraton Suites.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Technical director, the charismatic Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic, was taking no chances and opted to keep his charges warm and dry instead of venturing outdoors for a planned training session at the match venue just a minute or two away from the team hotel.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"It's because of the weather, the rain. The condition of the field was not good so we decided not to train on the field, but we will train in the meeting room," Bora said.<P class=StoryText align=justify>But the new-look Boyz were not kept idle as Milutinovic, who has the distinction of leading five different nations to the FIFA World Cup Finals, convened one of his intense team sessions.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Though the forecast was for the disturbance to persist until today, Bora has tentatively scheduled two training sessions at 10:30 am and 5:00 pm at nearby Lockhart Stadium.
Meanwhile Milutinovic, who arrived in Florida a few days ahead of the 20-man squad, said on paper Switzerland (ranked No 17 by FIFA) are formidable opponents with a cadre of players plying their trade with big clubs all over Europe.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"Look at the players that they have. they have quality, extra quality," Bora said shortly after the team's late lunch.
But he's not intimidated, saying this mission is not about results, but getting his "young team" to play intelligent football.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"Now we play against Switzerland, and winning is not the most important thing, but how we play the game and how we understand the game," he said.<P class=StoryText align=justify>In Switzerland's 26-man squad here, there are Arsenal players in Johan Djourou and Philippe Senderos, Borussia Dortmund's Philipp Degen and Alexander Frei, Eintracht Frankfurt's Christophe Spycher and Benjamin Huggel and VfB Stuttgart's Ludovic Magnin and Marco Streller.
Switzerland will play South American side Colombia in another friendly in Miami on Sunday.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Bora, who has built a reputation of performing miracles with little known teams over short periods of time, told the Observer that he will continue to sweep the various leagues in Jamaica in search of new talent and said he will give these players the best possible exposure.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"It is very important to continue to search and find the quality, but we must also have competitive games.," he said.<P class=StoryText align=justify>And as a testimony to his grassroots approach in building block by block a programme to qualify Jamaica to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he called a virtual unknown in JDF striker Andre Redwood.<P class=StoryText align=justify>In Bora's first assignm
