Wanted: Creative Midfielder For Reggae Boyz
    Published: Friday | June 15, 2012 0 Comments

    Alfredo Montesso
    Ryon Jones, Staff Reporter

Two games into the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) semi-final round and the Reggae Boyz coaching staff is still not comfortable with the construct of the team, and the hunt is still on for a creative and mobile midfielder.

Jamaica's senior football team's assistant coach, Alfredo Montesso, while speaking with The Gleaner on Wednesday night at the Norman Manley International Airport after the team returned to the island following its goalless draw with Antigua and Barbuda in Tuesday's latest qualifier, revealed that the team's creativity is still of concern.

"We have to work on the creativeness of the team. In these two games (against Guatemala and Antigua and Barbuda), the team operated well, but was not too creative, and we have to look in this direction," Montesso said. "We need a midfielder that can think about the game, put some balls in there (the box), and give some more mobility in the team. What we need is not only creativeness, but mobility in the team, and I think that is the crucial area that we have to look at," he added.

    Hunt on for new talent

Prior to Jamaica's opening semi-final qualifying match, which they won 2-1 over Guatemala, various players were looked at, but according to Monteso, more players might still be considered.

"We always have to look for new players, look for new talent; players that have been improving during the season and we have to give a chance to them," Montesso stated. "We have a core, and one or two additions will be welcomed at anytime," he added.

Jamaica are second to the United States in CONCACAF semi-final round Group A by virtue of an inferior goal difference as both teams have amassed four points from two games. The other teams that are vying for one of two spots from the group in the final stage of qualifying - Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala - have a point each.

Jamaica will next face group favourites USA on September 7 at the National Stadium before journeying to the States to re-engage them four days later.

"We don't have to care about the other teams. I have been really focused on what we are doing," Montesso stated. "I think we did our homework. Every team that wins at home, of course, will be given a big step to qualify. We have this game against America, and we have to be focused."

He added: "We need to get good games. We need to get camps and put the team together. This is something that we have discussed with the president already."

I was thinking the same thing. It is the perfect setup to recall Hue. Now they have their excuse. I do not think this Brazilian is cutting it. I think Tappa blunder when he called for him. Maybe there is more to the story; was he forced to do so or is it intimidation from the past assistant??? Just checking

              Hue would be a waste.
              ...he is just too slow.

Should any TEAM wish to have Pele return...or Valderrma?
              They are just too slow.

The article is bang on with the need for mobility. ...and although there is no doubt that a creative midfielder would make a difference that one midfielder who has the ability to make killer passes is just not enough.

Does any top team have only the outstanding creative midfielder making the killer passes or setting up (providing assists)?
              Of course not!

Mobility and quick good passing is our problem!
...particular is the need for increased movement and quick interchanging of ball (more one-time passes) during our attacks.

Inserting a Hue would be the TEAM Reggae Boyz sure death knell.

I take issue with this malinging of Hue , or any midfielder that shines in the NPL.Hue especially because he shines consistently over seasons in the NPL.

The NPL is a physical(cane cutting)brutal league with an abundance of players with individual pace(not team pace). How can a slow consistently excellent midfielder shine in such an enviroment?

That takes a special skill, lets assume you are right,he is slow, isnt that made up with his vision to pass and move at the opportune time in this cane cutting league blessed with individual pace of the opposition to single you out to do damage ?

We need to stop this madness! Hue shines whenever he gets called to the national setup and the question most ask is why isnt he recalled?

Hue is our answer , ignore him at our peril.

Anymidfielder that shines in the NPL consistently deserves a hard look, the thing is we have looked at Hue and discarded him so many tijmes when he has given MOM performances , that the coaching staff have painted themselves into a box of looking like fools.Their pride will be their downfall and Jamaicas too.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Why the diversional tactics? If you got that info , what would you do with it but dismiss them?

You need to ask yourself why is Hue constantly on everyone lips as the solution ?

Is Hue that good?. I mean Jerry is a nice guy and everything but I don't he is the one to take us to Brazil. We need a team, including a GK, and a coach. We are just not ready for prime time. Just one man's opinion.

Hue alone cannot take us there but he no doubt should be a part of any RBYZ team.
