Peter, this was to be expected as they didn't want him staying in the Prem nor did they want to put a price tag on him that would undermine his earning capacity with his new club. This was a way of saying to the player "thanks for your service". At his age, Kuyt can look forward to 3 or 4 more years, 5 at best, but that's a huge stretch.
