Exclusive - Staunton: Liverpool targets won't work with Van Gaal

    By Nick Rostron-Pike | Monday, May 28, 2012

Steve Staunton believes Liverpool's managerial targets will turn down the role if Louis van Gaal is appointed as director of football.
The Reds’ American owners, the Fenway Sports Group, are reportedly keen on installing the Dutchman in a position above the new boss at Anfield.
Wigan’s Roberto Martinez, Swansea chief Brendan Rodgers and Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp have all been touted as possible replacements for Kenny Dalglish.

But former Liverpool defender Staunton believes many of those top names are unlikely to want to work with the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich man.
“There are rumours that Louis van Gaal will come in as a director of football,” Staunton said. “Who wants that though? Most managers will turn it down for that reason alone.
“The situation at Liverpool is ridiculous. To come out and say to the media that there are 12 candidates in the first place is a mistake.
“I don’t know what’s going on. In the old days they would have got everything done behind the scenes and then announced it. They're making such a show of it in the media.”

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
