Henrik Larsson will return to Sweden next week, despite discussing the possibility of extending his stay at United with Sir Alex Ferguson.

The striker's fine form, together with suddeninjuriestoOle Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis Saha, had prompted speculation that he could prolong his time in Manchester.

But after scoring the winner against Lille, Larsson told MUTV: "I knew from the beginning, when I signed the contract, that this could be the scenario and I can't complain about that.

"I knew what I got myself into but those arethe decisions you have to make in life and you have to stand by those. We had a chat, but he (Sir Alex) respects my opinion and he fully understands why I'm going home.

"I've loved and enjoyed every single moment I've had here playing with United, but at the same time I have a contract with my hometown which I signed a year ago - and I don't think they'll be very interested in letting me go at this point."

Having headed United into the quarter finals of the Champions League, Larsson is confident that his temporary team-mates have the wherewithal to go on and win the tournament.

"The opportunity is there,"he said."It's a quality squad. You always have to respect your opponents but at the same time you have to believe in yourself and the quality.

"You have a few players in the current side who havedone it before. There's a lot of experience there and they know how to handle it."</DIV>
