Bilbao beat my side straight up, win some ... lose some. However, look at the side Fergie picked over the 2 legs. You seriously think if it was a UCL game ... Fergie wouldn't pick a stronger team in both legs? Evra himself said he was insulted to be captaining MU in the competition.

Judge each team on its own merit. Spurs has gotten better - period. This has nothing to do with the demise of Chelsea nor Arsenal. Swansea is playing good football. Stokes is playing much better as a team than last year so is Newcastle, Sunderland and even Bolton. What these teams lack is consistency.

If you cnsider that spurs were playing CL football for most of last season on top of their prem league matches, compared to this season where they've mainly had the PL to focus on then that could explain their strong challenge this season. Stoke is debatable but they've had the EL to occupy them. Yes agree with newcastle/sunderland. Bolton again debatable.

Basle, Athletico, Benfica. Id argue that Utd had a stronger squad to handle such opposition 5 years ago, and they would hve been good enough to see off teams such as Basle.
