Inter Milan have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri.
Andrea Stramaccioni, who this weekend led the Nerazzurri's youngsters to victory in the inaugural NextGen Series, is to take charge of the first team.
The vastly-experienced Ranieri replaced Gian Piero Gasperini in September but was unable to turn around Inter's season, with Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Juventus extending a woeful run that has seen them win only one of their last 10 Serie A matches.
Marching orders: Inter Milan's coach Claudio Ranieri has been sacked
That dismal sequence has left them down in eighth place, 10 points adrift of the Champions League places, and 22 behind league-leading rivals AC Milan.
The loss to Juventus was also their 12th league defeat of the campaign, only one shy of the club record of 13 suffered in 1947-48.
The Inter statement read: 'President Massimo Moratti and everyone at Inter would like to offer their sincere thanks to Claudio Ranieri and his staff for the professionalism and commitment they showed over recent months in charge of the team.
'Furthermore Inter would like to report that Andrea Stramaccioni - the coach of the Primavera team, who won the NextGen Series - will take charge of the first team.
'The club wishes Andrea Stramaccioni the best of luck as he will join up with the team tomorrow at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti.'
Dejected: Inter's defeat to Juventus spelled the end for Ranieri
Inter confirmed in a second announcement that Stramaccioni would be officially presented to the media at 1700 (local time).
Despite Sunday's loss, Ranieri had appeared to have been given a vote of confidence by Moratti earlier on Monday.
When asked if the 60-year-old, who counts the likes of Chelsea, Juve, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Fiorentina and Roma among his former clubs, was the man to see Inter through to end of the season, Moratti said: 'I think so.'
However, Inter have now decided to give Stramaccioni the reins.
Stramaccioni guided Inter's youngster to victory in the inaugural NextGen Series following a penalty shoot-out victory over Ajax in Sunday's final in London.
Inter are next in action against Genoa at home on Sunday.
