Russia race row farce: Samba could face disciplinary action for throwing back banana directed at him

Speaking out: Chris Samba said fans set a 'bad example'
Former Blackburn defender Chris Samba could face disciplinary action for his response to alleged racist abuse - amid a farcical turn of events in Russian football.
It is understood that Lokomotiv Moscow are considering asking for the Anzhi Makhachkala player to be punished because he threw a banana into the stands after Sunday's match.
An upset Samba, who joined Anzhi from Rovers last month, tossed the object back into the crowd after it landed by him as he left the pitch.
The two clubs have begun a furious war of words over the incident, with a Lokomotiv investigation concluding that the banana was in fact thrown at Samba by one of his own fans.
Anzhi responded by threatening court action if Lokomotiv could not substantiate the claim, while the race row threatened to become a sexism row over comments about the Moscow club's president.
Lokomotiv chief Olga Smorodskaya initially claimed that the incident did not happen, before later saying she feared it was a 'set-up'.
Lokomotiv spokesman Denis Novoselov then explained the club's position: 'We studied all the video from surveillance cameras, carefully reviewed the testimony of witnesses, and the results of this investigation found that the banana was thrown by a fan of the Dagestani team (Anzhi).'
Condemnation: Anzhi, coached by Guus Hiddink (above), slammed the incident
Powerful Anzhi consultant German Tkacheko hit back by suggesting that Smorodskaya was trying to shift the blame, adding: 'Of course, it would be proper to wait for the end of the official investigation.
'Without wanting to offend anyone, I won't say (Lokomotiv's statement) is nonsense, but it is precisely a female response.'
Anzhi vice-president German Chistyakov added: 'We are confident that this is nothing but an absolute nonsense and foolishness.
VIDEO: Samba targeted in Moscow...
'Initially Olga Smorodskaya was assuring us that such thing couldn't happen at all. Now we see a new "brilliant" explanation.
'Making such a statement the representative of Lokomotiv puts the reputation of our fans and correspondingly of our club in a bad light.
'In current situation we demand to provide us with the conclusive evidences or immediate and official refutation with an apology to our fans and the club.
'Otherwise the case will be brought before the court and the law-enforcement bodies.'
