HARBOUR VIEW FC ARE WESTERN UNION/KSAFA JACKIE BELL
KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS BY DEFEATING BOY'S TOWN BY 1-0!

Contributed by Clyde Jureidini - Harbour View FC

Fabian Taylor once again grabs the winner in the 48th
minute.

Not a "Classic" by any means but the "Stars of the
East" held their composure under constantly battling
against a game challenge from defending Champions, the
"Red Brigade" of Boy's Town.

Always wearing the lofty title of the "Best in the
West" the champions from Collie Smith Drive worked
feverishly to subdue the rampant attackers from the
"East" as Kavin Bryan was roughly treated only to get
back up and continue his determined burst goal wards
unperturbed.

His dangerous strike partner Fabian Taylor would be
denied as early as minute 18 when the ball fell to his
feet just outside the six yards box but his toe-poke
forward was blocked by the alert Fabian Watkins to
earn a second corner only.

Then Bryan turned his marker to release his Captain,
Lovel Palmer streaking down the left to shot just wide
of the far upright, as the crowd mourned in high
expectation of the first goal.

Boy's Town had their moments as Peter Keyes and George
Vernal tried to outwit the stable defensive backline
lead by Christopher Harvey and Jermaine Taylor, as
Oniel Smith supported and Robert Scarlett initiated
possession and attacks. Dwayne Miller was hardly
troubled in goal as Donald Stewart, Lovel Palmer and
Richard Edwards nullified possession in midfield as
Kemeel Wolfe flowed with Scarlett on the left flank.

The 49th minute would define the game as Smith found
Edwards mid way the attacking half, for him to slide
it forward by three yards searching for a pass.

Or was he?

As everyone's eyes swept the field far and wide, he
unleashed a terrific shot from 27 yards into and then
out of the grasp of the BT goalkeeper, Kirk Porter as
Fabian Taylor was right on his doorstep to tap home
for the game winner.

The quality of the game improved as some slick passing
combinations littered the park as the crowd cheered
but the crescendo would come later as National
midfielder and Harbour View player, Jermaine Hue got
up to warm.

He entered the fray to thunderous applause replacing
the smooth attacker Wolfe after 71 minutes. A few
simply passes were more than enough to entertain the
jubilant Harbour View Supporters as the Team focused
on the coordination in an effort to score a second
goal.

Hue's pass to Taylor on the left looked a curtain goal
after Taylor tricked two defenders to pull the
custodian to him only to see his delicate curler miss
the upright.

Bryan collected a Stewart slider which left him all
alone with Porter at his mercy but his chip was well
handled by Porter, to deny him any further advances in
the score line.

Gregory Simpson substituted Scarlett, as did Richard
West for Bryan as the end drew closer. Three minutes
added time did not help any as the trophy was
presented to the victors, in the Royal Box by Deveta
McLaren, Marketing Officer of Sponsors Western Union.

Wild celebrations ensued, water splashing, hugging,
kissing, running about the field stopping briefly for
photo taking of precious moments with friends,
well-wishers and fans before the Team picture was
recorded.

Congratulations to Coach, Lennie Hyde, Max Straw,
Andrew Hines, Manager, Annmarie Massey, Robert Lee,
Karen Julius, Physio. Driver, Fuzzy hosted Equipment
Managers, Dwayne ?Brukey and Jermaine alias Twinny
were in great spirits.

Harbour View captured the Western Union/KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout title with a 1-0 win over Boys' Town at the National Stadium last night.

National striker Fabian Taylor tapped home in the 48th minute after Boys' Town's goalkeeper Kirk Porter failed to hold on to a fierce drive from Richard Edwards.

Harbour View, having captured the First End-of-Round Final, are on course for at least three other titles. They are in the final of the Second End-of-Round final and the quarter-final of the all-island Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout.

Winning coach Lenworth Hyde said he was just dealing with the titles one at a time.

"We needed this one and we need to win games to keep the momentum going for the rest of the league. But I am pleased with the performance," said Hyde.

The 'Stars of the East', in capturing their third lien on the trophy, walked away with $350,000 winning prize. They also won in 1996 and 2000.

Boys' Town were not left empty-handed, pocketing $200,000, while Waterhouse earned $100,000 for third, courtesy of losing to the winner in the semi-final. AN ALREADY-surging Harbour View seem poised to continue their domina-tion of local competitions following the return to the fold of midfield maestro Jermaine Hue.

On Wednesday night, the 'Stars of the East' barely broke a sweat as they coasted to a 1-0 victory over the Red Brigade of Boys' Town to win their second title of the season, the Jackie Bell KO crown.

"Whenever you can get a player of that quality back in your squad it's always going to be a big plus," said Habour View coach Lenworth Hyde Sr.

"You saw glimpses of his quality today and as long as he remains disciplined and works hard, he will have absolutely no problems at all fitting into the squad," the coach said.

Hue looked sharp after coming on to the pitch for Kemeel Wolfe on Wednesday night. In the space of 15 minutes, he set up at least three clear goal-scoring opportunities.

After a scoreless first half, Harbour View took the lead early in the second through a tap-in effort from striker Fabian Taylor.A 48th-minute cracker from central midfielder Richard Edwards saw Boys' Town custodian Kirk Porter cough up the shot and Taylor was on hand to profit from the mistake. In a lacklustre affair, Boys' Town never really looked sharp as they struggled to have any significant impact.

No holding back

However, you would have bet your money on Boys' Town's top scorer, George Vernal, putting away a close-range 60th-minute volley, following a lob by substitute Garfield Gillespie, from no more than eight yards out.

"We played the first half pretty much to script. We wanted to hold them at bay and then take our opportunity when it came," said Boys' Town assistant coach Perry Bartley.

"We weren't holding back in the second half, but Harbour View are a good team. We couldn't attack all out we had to try on the counter," he said.
