Question: Substitutes NOT Wearing Uniform Shirts On Bench

Why do substitutes on the bench NOT wear their uniform shirts? I frequently see when the coach calls on a substitute, he has to reach into a bag and get his shirt.

I understand the need for warmup suits, and the colored vests.
