Arteta praises classy Liverpool for help after suffering concussion at Anfield

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has thanked Liverpool staff, players and fans for their support after he was injured in Saturday's victory at Anfield.

The Spaniard, who was at Everton for six years before leaving last summer, collided with Jordan Henderson in the second half and after lengthy treatment was carried off on a stretcher.

He was taken to hospital in the city as Arsenal's medical staff were concerned about a possible neck injury but he was released later that day, although manager Arsene Wenger has ruled him out for a week to recover from concussion.

'I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help and friendship towards me on Saturday,' wrote Arteta in an open letter on Arsenal.com.

'After my accident on the pitch, the Arsenal medical staff did a great job, together with everyone at Liverpool Football Club. From Anfield, I was taken straight to the Aintree University Hospital, where they checked me, just as a precaution.

Showing concern: Arteta has praised the fans and players

'Everything was fine and I was able to travel from the hospital and join up with my team-mates for the train journey back to London.

'I've since looked back at the TV images of when I was being taken off and just want to show my appreciation to the Liverpool fans at Anfield.

'It is touching to receive that response from the fans of a great club when I am leaving the pitch injured. Thank you.

'I also want to thank Pepe Reina and the Liverpool players who have sent me messages of support and friendship, this again is really touching and just shows class from a great football club.

'And very importantly, a message to all the fantastic Arsenal fans, not only all those at Anfield on Saturday who were brilliant, but also those who have sent me many messages since Saturday.

'It is hugely appreciated. I cannot tell you how much this means to me. It must have looked very serious to everyone as I left the pitch on a stretcher, but I'm pleased to say that I'm fine now and hope to be back on the pitch very soon. Thank you everyone.'

Racist trouble makers have no place in my team, regardless the cost.

True, wouldn't be surprised if he is sold in the summer.

I would be surprised. Business trumps decency all the time. Well, most of the time.

Yes, and Suarez is racist. And an incorrigible troublemaker.

One could argue ( I would) that that wasn't a blatant dive... having said that as I watch the replay he could have probably stayed on his feet but the initial swipe by the goalie trying to get the ball caused him to lose control of it... I think that if he could have maintained control of the ball he would have tried to put it in after the tackle, but when him cut, de ball run long so him do the sensible thing an gu dung... the goalie did touch him ascording to how I see it but u know I wearing Liverpool red glasses ... bottom line is poetic justice was done in the end.

On that note I think you have a legitimate claim of "cheat" when he or any player tries to get an advantage by tricking the ref...

all my claims against him are legitimate .... it all falls right in line with my assessment of him. FANTASTIC and skillful player but a cheat.

legitimate but disputable... I STILL DO NOT believe that his deliberate handball vs Ghana warrants the "cheat" label, diving does....

Mo - what specifically - no b.s. - makes you make that statement and accusation (that he is a racist)? I want specific facts. No conjecture. While I don't agree on the other accusation - that he is a troublemaker - leave that one be.

Did Adebeyor cheat against Manu** when he handled the ball before his disallowed goal?
