Same one. The man is a bushwaker turned goalkeeper.

All points are true. But equally the overseas professional defender like Stewpeas or the Captain Jermaine should know how to cover their lines.

Lazie - I had this same argument with the Director of Coaching on my daughter's team. He claims that the reason he leaves it to the players is because they would rather battle for winning the ball from the cross than reduce their chances by leaving two players on the post. I personally don't agree, but that was his argument.

I think it should be coached no doubt but the goalie has to use his better judgement and make the call on the field. As a defender and I see a deadly forward lurking I am tempted to leave the post but the goalie is the one who should be directing corners and free kicks around his box.

Come on Sass .... noone is disputing that .... but if you're going to leave the post ensure that someone else is covering.

It depends on numerical advantage and the skill level of the attackers and the goalie's perspective of the two. If the goalie says "two ah unu get out and mark Gerrard tight" - then that's the post left bare.

That's true, you can't expect a defender to make sure the post is covered if he has to leave it. My thing on numbers and the goalie's perspective was the setup before the kick. Once the kick is taken, then it would be hard to tell a defender he should not have left the post if he was moving off it to deal with a threat.
