  • Did anyone watch the Napoli v Chelsea game?

Napoli tend to line up 3-4-3 as they did against Chelsea yesterday. Why did AVB play with just Drogba up front? Seeing how they kept losing the ball in midfield, I was expecting him to go 4-4-2 from early.

Must lift my hat to Napoli coach. Playing 3 in the back like dem name Barca? Really brave.

    Saw the game.

I thought AVB used 3 up front also Mata, Drogba and Sturridge played up front.

I see what you are saying though Lazier, Chelsea lost it overall shape--trying to reduce the goal deficit damage.

Napoli is a team that only know how to play one way. Maverick team that.

Not knocking their tatics .... Just curious why a team being over-run by a 4 man midfield with 3 defenders, wouldn't make a change to 4 or 5 midfielders or push another player forward to see if they can push Napoli back.

Teams in Seria A will make the adjustments and get the win ... AVB choose to make the adjustment after they were down 1-3.

          here's the answer:

          Napoli 3 Chelsea 1

CHELSEA players were in revolt against boss Andre Villas-Boas last night — BEFORE this Naples defeat.

Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien were dumped to the bench for daring to criticise AVB, even though he invited them to do so.
Villas-Boas held a clear-the-air meeting on Sunday where he asked them for honest opinions on their poor results.

Lampard and Essien were forthright in their views — but it was Cole who spoke out most strongly.
The England left-back told AVB, 'I came here to win medals and trophies, but I'm never going to do that with your tactics'.
Cole is also unhappy as he feels 'like a robot' with Villas-Boas telling him exactly how to play, rather than giving him freedom.

Chelsea's players were infuriated when their three team-mates were put on the bench for speaking out ahead of the Champions League last 16 clash.

The boss even told Cole 'you made it personal'.
England star Cole was further angered when he saw his manager on TV claiming that he had been left out over concerns that he was not fully fit.
Cole underwent gruelling extra fitness training and insisted he was 100 per cent ready to play.

... damn this is happening in the wrong camp. Lets hope Tevez's return will upset the apple cart.

I didn't see the game, so I can't speak to what AVB did/did not do, but a 4-3-3 (if that's what Chelski played) can easily morph into a 4-5-1. So execution or player frailties may have come into play. In fact, when he was at Chelski, mourinho used to do this all the time before going to his "diamond" midfield.
