Tuesday, January 24, 2012
Head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore has convened a training camp for local based Reggae Boyz, which was scheduled to start yesterday and will end Thursday.
Players, who were involved in the Red Stripe Premier League second End-of-Round final, have been permitted to join the camp a day late.
According to a Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) release, the camp is part of the strategic decision of the governing body to keep a locally-based squad together on a continuous basis.
"It is necessary to always have a local camp in place as part of the national football development programme. The players involved will have many opportunities as a result of continuous involvement at this level. First of all, it exposes them to the philosophy, style of play and plans for the national team," coach Whitmore was quoted as saying.
The Boyz are preparing for three international friendlies in February. They will first play Cuba on the 22nd at the National Stadium, then to complete the match-match fixture, will engage their Spanish-speaking neighbours two days later.
The team will then depart Jamaica on February 25, for a game against Oceania's New Zealand on the 29th.
The Cuba tie is expected to feature mainly local-based players, while a strong representation of foreign-based players is expected for the New Zeland showdown slated for Auckland.
