FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Bayern Munich will stop signing young South American players and will concentrate on finding local talents, according to the club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Bayern has had little luck with young players imported from South America.
"We won't bring any more young players from South America, it makes no sense," Rummenigge was quoted as saying in Wednesday's edition of Sport-Bild weekly.
Rummenigge said the Bundesliga club would instead expand its scouting at home.
"That's going to be our focus, and not other countries or continents," he said.
Jose Ernesto Sosa of Argentina and Julio dos Santos of Paraguay flopped at Bayern. Brazilian defender Breno remains with the club but hasn't played much. Breno was also arrested recently over arson allegations at his rented house. He has been released.
