  • In the Champions league, what purpose does

...the additional assistants (located at the goal touch-line) serve?

(In the past) I have seen several plays where these waste of humanity... could make the deciding call--and remain silent.

Paul Marin, Lazie, Jangle and the rest of the forum hexperts ... this one's for you.
The only time TRUTH will hurt you...is if you ignore it long enough

HL why are you worried about things that don't concern you? You and the rest of the Man City crew need to focus on your future Europa League matches. Leave the Champions League discussions to those with the proper breeding for it. - T.K.

T.K how did Ben Olson move so fast and become the head coach, did he already have a USSF National license ? I was surprised to see him on the side lines...I liked him as a player.

No clue if Ben Olsen has any coaching licenses. If he does not then it is something he needs to do no question.

To give the short answer he was in the right place at the right time and he was very lucky to get the job. Curt Onalfo had a disastrous start to the 2010 season and he was fired. Olsen was hired as an interim coach to finish out the season. After that a new coach was to come in and build the team for the next year.DC interviewed a number of coaches for the job. (I believe it was 8 of them) Caleb Porter (Akron University/future US Olympic coach) was Kevin Payne's #1 choice for the job. The courted him for a long time and when he finally turned them down they had no where to go but to stick with Olsen. Our franchise really is dysfunctional right now. Reminds me of the old school metro stars lol. - T.K.

Red Bulls are not too far off from the old Metros.
We need to kick Marques out of NYC fast, Doesn't DC need a holding Mid or whatever he plays when he feels up to it

I liked Olsen's fighting spirit when he was a player, sometimes you can't coach that. I wish him the best but against the Red Bulls I hope he fails everytime.

HL, my understanding is they're there instead of goal line technology. FIFA need to get with the times, although I read where there may be such technology by next year. These assistants behind the goal serves no purpose.

It's called smoke and mirrors... FIFA's feeble attempt to say they're doing something about goal-line calls. These are very few but can be critical... however, simple replays 90% of the time from my observation clarify the call... all this b.s. about goal-line technology reh reh a pure fawt!

lol not investigative reporting HL I just happened to be waiting on pins and needles like all dc fans at the time to see who our new coach was going to be. A big let down to say the least. Nonetheless Olsen is much loved at DC so the usually patient fans will be even more so with the "legend".

In response to you Scaly about Marquez.....NO WAY would we want that guy! Marquez was a disaster. lol....He was a complete waste of skin last season. You guys would be better off dumping him and getting that cap space back to add some depth to the squad. How can a man so great at Barcelona be so worthless now? The red bulls fans were right to boo him last season. The only thing I found funnier than his play was that he had the guts to blame other players for how crap he was all season.

It's funny just when you feel that we've gone past the days of when euro based players would come here and expect the MLS players to bow at their feet you still get the odd marquez or ljunberg to remind you that no matter how hard you try some with the wrong attitude will still slip through cracks. I guess you can't expect a perfect record with these things.

On the other side Henry performed really well this season. As a matter of a fact most of the DP players in the league played last well. Even though past their prime these guys have been value added. - T.K.

P.S. You guys plan to win any trophies next season? Still 0 and counting.... !
