  • Chelsea getting all the luck...

Should/could have been a man down?
...keeps lucking out as the great defender 'post' stands firm against Newcastle...

...not saying Chelsea has not had quite a few great chances and have been running up against an in-form Newcastle 'keeper...and have been suffering from the hands of the otherwise excellent Sturridge who keeps going for broke when setting up collegues for a tap-ins would be great options...

Well - anyone looking at it dispassionately knows that should have been a red on Luiz, so no Chelski got away - not to mention the bad luck Newcastle got laced with. Still, Sturridge should have scored 4, Ramirez should have scored as well as Lampard (pen miss), plus the 3 them pipe in that's 7 to the two or 3 that Newcastle missed. So 11 v. 11 Newcastle don't have nothing to complain about other than maybe admitting "we can't beat them 11 v 11". Look for Newcastle to start slipping out of the European slots despite their brave and entertaining performance. Times up!!

Not fair Paul .... the keeper made some amazing saves.

Agreed the keeper was fantastic. But the way I see it is that the man with the ball has the advantage. I didn't mean to take away from Krul's awesome performance, but in each case, certainly with Sturridge, and certainly in Ramirez's case, better execution by the striker's has to be expected virtually one-on-one with the goalie. Krul was terrific, but if you're a striker, you can't miss those kinds of chances.

A game worth getting up early to watch.

Can't recall seeing so many missed chances in a match in a very very long time!!

I thought it would have been a red too. This is what the Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had to say about it.

"He was the last man and it was a goalscoring opportunity,' said Pardew. 'I was really angry and went to see the referee at half-time.
He said Ba didn't have control of the ball. But if Luiz had gone, Chelsea would have struggled
              ."

So the referee sees Ba not having control of the ball, he had no other choice as to consider it a yellow. I would need to take another look.

But I guess Newcastle was hoping the referee would have leveled the playing field for them by having Chelsea play most of the match with only ten men.

I don't buy that. Luiz was beaten and foul the man. Only the goalie stood a chance of saving that.

Did you see the Bolton VS Spurs first half? Same thing.

I missed the play as I left to go and get a cup of coffee, I saw the replays and thought it should have been a red. I did not look at it as Ba not having control of the ball to make it a direct scoring opportunity. As I said, I will need to take another look.

Coffee was good. I meant I went to my kitchen to get a cup. I needed something at that time of the morning to wake me up.

Assasin: Here is a link to the play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYsSuiTcFuk

If you look at it, Ba was brought down before he ever had the ball under control.

I know with some referees, it would be instant red. This referee however felt that for it to be considered a goal scoring opportunity, Ba has to have control of the ball.

I can't see how having control have to do with it. If he wasn't pulled he would have won the ball and Luiz was the last man. For me that is a straight red.
