Sportsmax secures Cup broadcasts

SPORTSMAX LIMITED has secured exclusive local and international broadcast rights for the Jamaica Football Federation's Red Stripe Champions Cup competition that will see coverage extend into North America through its partner Fox SoccerChannel over the next four years.
This was revealed by the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) general secretary, Burchell Gibson, at the second-round draw of the Red Stripe Champions Cup at Cuddyz sports club on Monday.
Gibson announced that the broadcast rights were for a four- year period spanning from January 2007- June 2010. The broadcast rights' package includes all the matches in the Champions Cup competition that features the 14 parish champions and the 12 participating National Premier League (NPL) teams.
Oliver McIntosh, CEO of SportsMax, said his organisation "has been looking to get involved in local football and found this competition to be the most exciting on the senior football calendar."
"Through our parent company IMC's international rights deal with the JFF for the Champions Cup, SportsMax, along with CVM-TV, will bring unprecedented coverage of Jamaica's premier senior football competition to the television audience in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean," said McIntosh.
"In addition, through our affiliation with Fox Soccer Channel, coverage will extend northward as the highlight shows, semi-finals and finals of the Champions Cup will be broadcast into the 25 million subscriber homes that FSC covers. This will include two-minute capsules of each round in the popular Fox Soccer Report," he added.
SportsMax's broadcast of the Red Stripe Champions Cup will be available to all subscribers to SportsMax in some 18 Caribbean countries, with local television station CVM-TV co-producing and also broadcasting the Champions Cup matches and highlight shows.
Following the completion of each round of the Red Stripe Champions Cup, SportsMax will broadcast a round-up show on Sundays after its live English Premier League match and CVM-TV will broadcast the round-up show on Sunday evenings after its news hour.
The dates of broadcast of the round-up shows are scheduled for: March 4, March 18, April 1 and April 15. SportsMax and CVM-TV will each broadcast one semi-final live on March 25 and the final will be simulcast on CVM-TV and SportsMax on April 8.
Marketing manager of SportsMax, Tanya Lee, is particularly pleased about the acquisition of the competition.
"The knockout format ensures that the excitement is sustained in the Champions Cup from the first kick-off to the final whistle and that will be of particular significance to our viewers," said Lee.
The Red Stripe Champions Cup, formerly the Federation Cup, is in its third season. The second round of this year's competition kicks off on February 21.
