<SPAN class=art-text>Ronaldinho and David Beckham both made goalscoring returns to action, helping Barcelona stride three points clear at the top and Real Madrid move third in La Liga respectively. Ronaldo was also smiling after his Milan debut ended in victory, while his compatriot Fred's goal saw pacesetters Lyon pick up their first win in six Ligue 1 outings. There was little change at the top in the Premiership, but Schalke extended their advantage at the top of the German Bundesliga to six points as Werder Bremen tasted a second successive defeat.

Serie A: Ronaldo makes successful return
Ronaldo made a successful return to Serie A, rising from the bench to help AC Milan to a 2-1 reverse of Livorno at the San Siro. Ronaldo quickly impressed following his 63rd-minute introduction, but it was Marek Jankulovski who earned Milan the points, his thunderous strike from the edge of the penalty area beating Livorno keeper Marco Amelia.

Runaway leaders Inter Milan extended their record sequence of Serie A victories to 15 with a 2-0 win at Chievo, Adriano and Hernan Crespo the Nerazzurri's goalscorers. Nearest chasers Roma remain 11 points behind Inter following a 3-0 defeat of Parma.
