PORTMORE United striker Steven Morrissey has signed a two-month loan deal with Vaasan Palloseura (VPS) of Finland's Premier Division.
According to VPS' official website, the "aggressive" forward will be on loan to the club through to October 31 2011 and was employed in a move aimed at bolstering a weak goal-scoring attack that has seen them scoring only 17 goals in 22 games this season
MORRISSEY... fourth on goalscoring chart in last season’s Premier League
Morrissey, who has represented Jamaica at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels, finished fourth on the goalscoring ladder in last season's Premier League with 10 goals.
According to Portmore's general manager, Clive Marshall, "this is a very good move for Steven as he will be playing first division football in Europe".
This, Marshall added, will give the forward valuable exposure to top-flight footballl. "VPS is a good fit because they need his goal-scoring skills immediately so he should get every chance to prove himself," he said.
VPS, which is based in Vaasa on Finland's west coast, currently sit 11th in the Finnish Premier League.
The club has played twice in the UEFA Cup in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 and are perennial performers in the Finnish Premier League.
