Williams, the former star at St Anthony’s College during the 2003 Secondary Schools Football League, finally settled into the number one role at Connection in 2006 after years of languishing in the bench behind Colombian-born Alejandro Figueroa, who was transferred, before the start of last season, to the 2006 champs Joe Public.
And his performances between the uprights for Connection earned the easy-going Williams a starting spot in the national team after former Netherlands defender Wim Rijsbergen replaced his countryman Leo Beenhakker last July.
Williams was also named as the “Goalkeeper of the Year”, ahead of namesake Daurance Williams of Jabloteh and Tristan Charles of United Petrotrin.
St Lucian left-back Sheldon Emmanuel, who is currently in a transfer tangle between Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA and Jabloteh, is the “Defender of the Year”, while left-footed Brazilian-born William Da Silva Oliviera is the “Midfielder of the Year” and Jamaican forward Roen Nelson the “Striker of the Year”.
Nelson and Anthony Wolfe shared the “Golden Boot” award, for the leading goal-scorer, with 16.
Jabloteh was voted as the “Team of the Year” while Connection was the “Most Disciplined Team of the Year”. Michael McComie, the former Trinidad and Tobago goalie, was named as the “Coach of the Year” after guiding the “Eastern Lions” to the league title while Connection’s Raymond McLean was the “Team Administrator (Manager) of the Year”.
In the junior divisions, top youth team forward Matthew Bartholomew of Connection is the MVP in the Under-18 division, fellow striker Daniel Joseph of Jabloteh is the MVP in the Under-16s and Jerrol Britto of Jabloteh the MVP in the Under-14s.
The officials were not left empty-handed, as Shane De Silva was adjudged as the “Referee of the Year” while Wayne Caesar was the “Match Commissioner of the Year”.<SCRIPT language=JavaScript> function pop(url,w,h) { okno = null; if(window.screen) { aw = screen.availWidth; ah = screen.availHeight; } else { aw=640; ah=480; } dane="width="+w+",height="+h+",left=" +(aw-w)/2+",top=" +(ah-h)/2 +",toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no," +"status=no,menubar=no," +"scrollbars=yes,resizable=no"; okno=window.open(url,'pop',dane); } </SCRIPT>
