No inside info but had a lengthy discussion with the principals of MBUFC and the name change will go ahead.
Powell has a vision which is a lofty one and he concedes he might not live to see it come thru....men and their money...(sigh)Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

MONTEGO BAY, St James — The off-again, on-again name change proposal for Montego Bay's Premier League club from Seba United to Montego Bay United FC (MBUFC) is back on the agenda.
A release from MBUFC yesterday said the deal was cemented on Monday, July 25 when "Montego Bay United Football Club officially took over Seba United".
The announcement of the name change last month evoked an avalanche of protests and criticism from the hardcore fan base of the two-time Premier League champions, especially from the more depressed areas of the city, provoking a change of heart from the principals of MBUFC, led by its president Orville Powell.
In an about turn yesterday, the release said they were still bent on the development of the game and as such the decision was made to go ahead with the change.
"Despite some protests, MBUFC remains committed to take football and the City of Montego Bay, its players and fans to greater levels of achievement and economic return," the release stated.
The release over the name of Powell acknowledged the impact the name Seba carries and the opposition to the change of the name. "Our discussions with the people we recognise that for us to move forward with football, there must be a united effort and stronger determination to make this happen," the release noted.
Powell said the executive is now in the process of selecting a team of directors that would drive the new entity forward that would be announced soon.
The name, Powell told the Observer in an interview yesterday, was not the only change as the colour scheme of "a futuristic green and blue" similar to the one worn by Major League Soccer outfit Seattle Sounders.
The team will play its home games at the 7,000-seat Montego Bay Sports Complex, said Powell.
He acknowledged they were behind as far as time was concerned to get everything in place for the start of the league in less than six weeks.
Addressing those who protested the name change, Powell said Seba United fan base was dying and said those left behind were more fans and not supporters as all they did was make noise and had nothing to add to the progress of the club.
The new vision, he said, was to move away from the shrinking fan base and seek new supporters not just in the geographical regions of Montego Bay or western Jamaica.
Naming the team after the city as is done else where in the world of football and could engender a wider fan base and hopefully the ability to sell merchandise.
The vision, he said, would be to sell merchandise to Jamaicans living overseas as well as tourists travelling to Montego Bay. This might not become a reality in the next few seasons, he noted, but their actions now would set the base for this to become a reality "even after we are dead and long gone".

We might not like what he had to say about the Seba 'fans' but trust me he is 100% right about them... this set of 'fans' are one of the most abusive and vulgar set towards their own players and have been known in the past to attack their own players when they deem them not to have played up to standard.
Brain 'Rambo' Brown was attacked and chopped more than once and one night when the team bus came back from Kingston and did not win, a so-called fan opened the bus door and threw a small pot of hot soup on the players in the bus.
They go to game sand cuss the players and coaches mercilessly, refuse to pay to go to games and even to go on the bus to away games were they then demand to be let in free.Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

that kinda of change is needed in Mobay to attract business interest. These teams fail to pick up any good support because of the wooliganism involve. Good that is also going to be at a venue where all spectator can pay money instead of siting on hillside.
Forward Mobay United.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

The management of MBUFC know exactly what it's doing.
What is Seba? Is that a community in St. James? It's just like Hazard. Was that a community in Clarendon? The best thing Portmore did when it moved to Portmore was to take the name of the community. Now, the stands are almost full as the people of Portmore, the largest dormitory community in the Caribbean (?), have something they can identify with.
The problem with Mobay football has always been too many teams running around as top notch teams. Seba, Wadadah, Violet Kickers - can anyone locate these communities on a map? Brandon should consider changing Sporting Central Academy to Sporting May Pen Academy!
After a few years, people will forget that MBUFC was ever known by any other name. Advertisers, the few who are willing in Montego Bay, will jump on board. Football loving tourists will have another t-shirt to buy instead of the "My best friend went to Montego Bay and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" one.
There are a million reasons why the name-change is a good idea. Those who currently have Seba jerseys, my advice to them would be to hold onto them. They will probably be worth a lot of money in a few years, or they won't!
And as for those people who were up in arms about the name change, Sickko is right. Many of them scaled fences to watch their favourite team. They will probably continue to do so, but at least this time, when they are caught, they can't talk nonsense about "beg yuh a bligh cah mi a foundation Seba man". MBUFC nuh have nuh foundation members yet!
And trust mi, you ain't seen nothing yet! MBUFC going to tek it to another level!
Road, drivah! (No, wi nuh ha nuh room fi di Liad One!)

good talk sah. You have too much big hotels from Hanover to Rosehall fi a good managed team can't take something off. management of the team has been weak and the main objective was to cater to a few fans who sit upon hill or don't pay to inna Jarrett park with some people letting off a money here and there.
Mobay United mi say.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

Why fiasco?
Could it not just be divergent views...and either there is a compromise or there is not?
If there is not maybe 1 from 2 ends up being 2 new separate entities...or MBFC looks for/finds a new partner?"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Just a wrong choice of word I take it Karl. It is not a fiasco, it is a prudent management decision."Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." ~ Kahlil Gibran
