NPSL IN THE LAND OF SPRINGS
Jamaican relationship provides growth for NPSL
As the World Football Challenge pits some Major League Soccer clubs against the premier international clubs in the sport, the National Premier Soccer League is working to build its own connection to another country’s top league.
NPSL technical director Matt Driver has been using his influence and relationships to build a relationship between the league and Jamaica’s top league.
"The relationship was born late last year through the Jamaican Symposium," said Driver, former first assistant for New England Revolution and former owner of three WPSL squads. "Harry Gorman of Dallas FC, FIFA agent Michael Wheeler, immigration attorney Evan Mckenzie and Jeff L’Hote (president & CEO of LSD Soccer Consultancy) have been working diligently with me to strengthen the relationship between the two leagues. I personally have visited Jamaica several times in the past year and advised their PLSA on various aspects of coach and player development. In essence we’ve all been working hard to widen American-based relationships between the American and Jamaican soccer federations."
"This relationship between the NPSL and Jamaican national league will creates a higher profile for both leagues. For the NPSL to be associated with a premier CONCACAF country and their pro national league is great for the league’s image. The relationship will also be used as a tool for moving players and providing coaching education opportunities. It can only benefit the NPSL."
Driver said there have been discussions about sending an All-Star team from the Jamaican league to the States to play an NPSL All-Star squad, as well as many other opportunities for the league. All this in addition to running AC Crusaders... Driver has the wheel.
