    PNM: Jack deceived country

Story Created: Jun 22, 2011 at 11:53 PM ECT

WORKS and Transport Minister "set about to deceive the people of Trinidad and Tobago" by resigning from the post of FIFA vice president in the face of a negative report from the Ethics Committee of the world football governing body, according to the Opposition People's National Movement.

In a statement issued yesterday, the party reiterated its call for Warner to resign or be fired by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar "to save face and reputation" of the country.

The party made reference to a 17-page report, first published in the British press, which found that there was "comprehensive, convincing and overwhelming evidence" that former FIFA presidential candidate Qatari Mohamed Bin Hamman and Warner colluded to bribe the Caribbean Football Association to vote for Bin Hamman in the June 1 FIFA presidential election.
"We are of the view that Mr Jack Warner participated in the Ethics Committee's process. He received the FIFA report on 14th June 2011. He was given the option to be heard. He refused. On the 17th June 2011, he reacted by his resignation," the party stated in a media release.

"Having done so, he set about to deceive the people of Trinidad and Tobago. He sought to give the impression that he chose to serve us, out of pure love and affection," the statement added.

The statement said that Warner's "apparent voluntary resignation...was merely a ruse to give the false impression" that he was "cleared of all allegations by FIFA".

It stated that this was done in order to facilitate Warner's continued control and influence in local football and also to retain his position in the Cabinet and Government.

The party recalled that one year ago, its political leader Dr Keith Rowley, had called upon Warner to chose between football and government but he did not.

Jack stepped on quiet a few toes.
...there are those who shall move heaven and earth to bury him.

Must say that I am most fearful about CFU fragmenting and losing its power in CONCACAF...and our going back to the days when we just sat under the table...watch the Europeans and the Big boys grouge themselves not even allowing scraps to fall from the table.

Can well remember no CFU officials appointed to any FIFA committee or sub-committee, no FIFA project of worth in any Caribbean country...no Caribbean referee going to major tournaments...no appointees as 'doers' at tournaments outside of the Caribbean...in fact, we never even had a Caribbean tournament.

...anyway we watch di ride! Really do hope it is not FORWARD to THE PAST!

The Marcotti guy suggested that Tommy Smythe (ha ha) should go after ALL of FIFA... the focus is now on Jack but that focus will now shift to Bin Hamman who still occupies his post though suspended. In reality they should all be examining their own morals and ethics and putting the FIFA house in order.

Jack became part of a corrupt organization and profited from it; it is "unfair" that he alone be the fall guy for the organization to clean up its act... but maybe that will be his FIFA legacy.

We cannot ignore the positives that Jack did, but, corruption is corruption and if he committed corrupt acts then he should pay a price... in this case the price is having to relinquish his FIFA post. Of course this is assuming that the leaked memo is true. It could be he is just at the end of his rope and IMO rightly he has resigned to focus on his ministerial responsibilities in TT. I live here and with his minster's hat on, he is a giant... he has done and is doing things in one year in office that took previous administrations 15 years to do.

As far as football is concerned it is my opinion that latterly he has actually hindered the development of football in T&T... we lament the state of JA football but look where T&T is now...

Good talk Peter R. We can't forget the negitives but we have to look at the overall picture on Jack. He has not alway done good but there is some positives that many won't choose to remember. He is instrumental in CFU football.

I can only hope whoever takes his post will do better and will not be involved in the corruption.

Why are you guys fighting it? - FIFA operates from its inception as a quid pro quo organisation. Every last thing done in FIFA is done based on I give you this, you give me that. You scratch my back, I scratch your back. ...in a one for all and all one insider backslapping buddy-buddy movement.

Any one who attempts to be a loner soon gets kicked to the curb. Jack played the game well...until he became arrogant. ...bucked Blatter...he was mad with his own importance. Blatter outflanked him with the help of Blazer.

...if you think Blazer has done what he did out of the goodness of his heart...then again you have forgotten what I said of FIFA -

Every single soul who advances in FIFA had what is called a 'god-father'.

Jack came on the scene and got a power base as he was able to get more and more Caribbean countries to become members of FIFA to come in and join with others (other Caribbean countries) that were members before to vote together as a power block. Blatter saw that the CFU, i.e. Jack, could give him those CFU votes (now 23 I think)...and became Jack's 'god-father'. They teamed up together and the rest as they say is history.

It is now obvious that they fell out...why I have not a clue. ...but Blatter 'smell di rake' and set up Jack and Bin Hammam.

What they are claiming Jack and Ben Hammam did is rampant within FIFA. ...and it has been so from just about its inception.

However, any time such allegations arise FIFA itself investigates. ...and uphold charges or throw them out as FIFA member alignment see fit. (i.e. the back scratching - with the ethics committee and other committees carrying out the practical part of the 'lovie-dovie or knife in the back action).

Trust me there is every reason to believe that the members or countries of those ethics committee members are going to reap benefits as a result of ruling as the power brokers wish them to rule... -- the quid pro quo continues.

How under God's earth could Blazer act as he did against Lisle Austin - flouting the CONCACAF statues and have Blatter's boys uphold his actions? The statues and regulations are used...twisted and used...as the power brokers wish.

Blazer and Blatter scratching each others backs.
