Copa America 2011 To Be Broadcast On YouTube
by Ryan Rosenblatt • Jun 18, 2011 2:52 PM EDT

Fans in the United States who wanted to check out Copa America 2011 were heartbroken when ESPN bowed out of the bidding for the TV rights in February. It looked like they would have to resort to choppy and illegal internet streams to watch the best in South American play for the continental championship, but that won't be the case. All 26 matches of next month's tournament will be broadcast live on YouTube to more than 50 countries, U.S. included.

In addition to live matches, YouTube will have highlights, goal compilations and full-game uploads from every match. All of the action from this year's tournament can be found at YouTube.com/CopaAmerica beginning on July 1, when the tournament begins in La Plate with hosts Argentina taking on Bolivia. In the meantime, that YouTube channel is featuring highlights of the 2007 tournament.

As hosts, Argentina are considered one of the favorites to win this year's tournament, although they will undoubtedly be challenged by rivals Brazil. It is expected to be one of the best Copa America tournaments ever with so many teams in the region fielding quality teams, such as last year's World Cup semifinalists Uruguay and good squads from Paraguay and Chile. Mexico will also join the tournament, although they will not be playing with their first choice team.
