  • Inneresting FACTS:

    • The U.S. will be facing Jamaica for the 18th time in history, posting an undefeated 9-0-8 record in 17 games between 1998 and 2006.
    • The teams last met in a friendly on April 11, 2006, with Ben Olsen scoring the U.S. goal in a 1-0 victory.
    • The teams have met twice in the Gold Cup with the U.S. holding a 2-0-0 lead in that series, most recently with the U.S. winning a 2005 quarterfinal at Gillette Stadium 2-1 en route to winning the title.
    • The U.S. and Jamaica tied 1-1 at RFK Stadium in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on Oct. 3, 1997. Eric Wynalda scored that day for the U.S.
    • The U.S. will be playing in Washington, D.C., for the 21st time. RFK Stadium has hosted each of the previous meetings, and on Sunday will tie the Los Angeles Coliseum for hosting the most U.S. Men’s National Team games.

    Inneresting Jamaican FACTS:
    • Jamaica has participated in eight of the 11 Gold Cups with a 9-15-4 record (32 goals scored and 47 against).
    • Jamaica has shut out opponents in all three games in the 2011 Gold Cup. In 25 previous matches, they had a total of four shutouts, including two since 2000.
    • Their three-game winning streak is their longest ever in the Gold Cup.
    • Demar Phillips leads the way for Jamaica with three goals in the 2011 Gold Cup.
    • Jamaica’s 23 players hail from professional clubs in six different countries. Nine players play in Major League Soccer and seven play in Norway. Four are based in Jamaica.
    • Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is teammates with Landon Donovan at the Los Angeles Galaxy, while Dane Richards plays at the New York Red Bulls with Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo. The San Jose Earthquakes have a forward on each side of the field with Ryan Johnson of Jamaica and Chris Wondolowski of the U.S.
    • Nine players return from the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup team, including Omar Cummings who scored Jamaica’s only goal in three games in 2009.
    • Ricketts, Luton Shelton, Tyrone Marshall and Omar Daley were members of the 2005 squad that faced the U.S. in the quarterfinals.
    • Ian Goodison played in the 1998 and 2000 Gold Cups, but did not appear with Jamaica in 2003, 2005 or 2009.
