  • Daniel Gordon: Club Stays Alive After Win

Daniel Gordon got a yellow card, but Rotweiss Oberhausen got a big boost in their battle to escape relegation with three valuable points in a 2-1 win over Karlsruhe.

With three matches remaining, Oberhausen is still in 17th place with 28 points. Osnabruck is 16th, also with 28 points, but ahead on goal difference by six goals, -20 to -26.

Karlsruhe is 15th with 29 points, barely out of the relegation zone. Karlsruhe also has a goal difference of -26.

If the season ended this weekend, Oberhausen would be automatically relegated, Osnabruck would be in a relegation playoff, and Karlsruhe would be safe from relegation.

Also looks like Gordon played in central defense today, instead of his normal defensive midfield position:

So it would seem that he's got some versatility to his game.

Oberhausen's defense is dinged up, so moving Gordon back to defense makes sense. Heinrich Schmidgal, back from a knee injury, played defense last week, but was moved to his natural postition at midfield, which might add some offense to the midfield.

Last week, Oberhausen p!$$ed away two points, giving up a last second goal in a 3-3 tie to last place Armenia Bielefeld.

Oberhausen will have a bigger hole to fill against mid-table Alemania Aachen.
Forward Mike Terranova, who has suddenly found a scoring touch, got his fifth yellow card on the season and will be suspended for Friday's match. Terranova scored last week and scored both goals against Karlsruhe.

And I might add, nobody from JFF has e-mailed me to even acknowledge my informing them of Daniel.

        Daniel Gordon Profile

        DOB: 01/16/85 (26 years old)
        Height: 6'4"
        Position: Midfield/Defence
        Team: Rotweiss Oberhausen

Can he fit into Tappa's plan?

Would Daniel be an upgrade over whoever is a central defender? Was Daniel at central defender yesterday a one-time patch job for Oberhausen or will it continue?

Daniel would DEFINITELY be an upgrade for Jamaica at defensive midfielder.

I am all for bringing him into camp, providing he is tryuly interested in playing for the Reggaeboyz. Will Tappa and the JFF do it? That's another question! There have been a prominent EPL defender who stated clearly that he wants to play for the ReggaeBoyz but no one went calling on him. And there have been other players who made it known which team they would like to play for but the JFF never called them to camp.

I am sure Daniel Gordon is a quality player. Yet, the only way we can know if he fits into the team/plans is to bring him to camp. It's up to the coach to make the move. To see if he is better than some we already have at midfield or defence we would have to give him a trial. If he is an upgrade, then yes make him a part of the pool.

This was the starting lineup for Jamaica vs. Venezuela

                D. Miller -Goal

                Shavar Thomas
                Eric Vernon
                Jermaine Taylor - Defenders
                Dicoy Williams

Shavar Thomas is 30 years old and might have one or two good seasons left.
Jermaine Taylor is a whopping 40 years old and needs to be replaced.

                Khari Stephenson
                Demar Phillips
                Rudolph Austin -Midfield
                Dane Richards

I don't know who is the defensive midfielder, but Khari Stephenson and Dane Richards appear to be locks.

Jermaine Taylor is a young man, in his mid-twenties.

Khari Stephenson, Rudolph Austin, Lovel Palmer, Omar Daley and Richard "Shortman" Edwards are the defensive midfielders.

Daniel Gordon could be a very good fit. But as I mentioned earlier, the first step is to bring him to camp for trial and see how he fits into the team re chemistry, technical and tactical awareness.

In case Monday afternoon gets to be a bit slow, Hertha Berlin, in first place in Bundesliga 2, can clinch a return to the big time this afternoon (1:15 Eastern) at Duisburg. www.atdhenet.tv

Hertha Berlin has 65 points, Augsburg 61, and Bochum is third with 56. The first two places win promotion to the big time, and third place goes to a promotion playoff.

If Hertha Berlin gets one point out of today's match, Hertha would lead Bochum by 10 points with three matches remaining, and guarantee a finish of no worse than second place.

Hertha Berlin was relegated to Bundesliga 2 at the end of the 2009-10 season.
