<SPAN class=art-text>The calendar year of2006 undoubtedly rates as one of the most successful spells in German striker Miroslav Klose's career. </SPAN><SPAN class=art-text>

He claimed the adidas Golden Shoe at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™
as leading scorer on five goals, and finished a creditable third overall with Germany. The 28-year-old Werder Bremen star was equally prolific in theGerman Bundesliga, finishing top scorer in 2005/6 with a tally of 25 goals. He leads the way again this season, sharing top spot with Hertha Berlin sharp-shooter Marko Pantelic on 10 apiece.

Klose was born in Poland, but came to Germany with his parents as an eight-year-old, and now rates as one of the best forwards in world football. Interviewed by FIFA.com, the aerial powerhouse looked back over recent events and spoke of forthcoming challenges, also revealing how football helped him settle as a youngster in a new country.

FIFA.com: Miroslav, you had an outstanding 2006. You were the leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup and in the Bundesliga, and finished third at the global event with Germany. How would you personally rate the last 12 months?
Miroslav Klose: It's definitely the best year I've had in sporting terms, with personal success in the league and at the World Cup. It's a great honour, and I'm even more delighted as I more or less hit the targets I set myself beforehand.

Which would you say is more valuable, winning the Golden Shoe or finishing third with Germany?
Obviously you always want to finish first, but third place was a triumph for the team. I scored five times at the 2002 World Cup, and I was aiming for six in 2006. I didn't quite get there, but naturally I'm still extremely pleased that I won the Golden Shoe.

What did you think of the outpouring of national emotion in Germany at the World Cup?
It was unique, the amazing emotions and atmosphere. I get goosebumps whenever I think about it. But what was really great was the absence of hooliganism.<TABLE id=IMGTAB height=150 cellSpacing=3 cellPadding=0 width=150 align=left summary="" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR id=TRCAP><TD vAlign=bottom align=left><SPAN class=textblack11px_normal>Klose indicates the score during a 3-0 win for Werder Bremen at home to Bielefeld on 25 November 2006, a match which, according to the striker himself, witnessed his best performance of 2006.</SPAN></TD></TR><TR id=TRSOURCE><TD align=left><SPAN class=textblack11px_bold>(AFP)</SPAN></TD></TR><TR id=TRAUTHOR><TD align=left><SPAN class=textblack11px_bold>David Hecker</SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>What was your personal highlight in 2006?
I picked up quite a collection of trophies last year. I rate them all as important, because I'm delighted about everything, no
