Boyz ready for third match on tour

SAO PAULO, Brazil — Jamaica's U-20s go into their third practice game here against Fourth Division club Saltense at Traffic Football Academy this afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm (1:30 pm Jamaica time), with high expectations following intense training sessions and improvement in tactical awareness and organisation.

Since their second game against Palmeiras last Friday, the Young Boyz have undergone intense finishing excercise and defensive tactics and organisation, and coach Walter Gama expects the Jamaicans to do themselves proud, even though he said the result will not be important at this time.

Yesterday morning, the team did technical and physical training before retreating to the pool for some light work.

Meanwhile, the afternoon session was spent working on defensive tracking, turning defence into attack and other defensive strategies, as the head coach argued that most of the midfield and attacking players do not take their defensive work seriously enough.

"We looked at different defensive strategies because when most of them lose the ball, they don't care," he reasoned.

However, he believes the team will perform well against their senior counterparts in today's game.

Meanwhile, in an effort to help the players recover from their hectic and demanding training schedule, the entire team received chirotherapy — eight minutes of ice bath — courtesy of the Academy after yesterday evening's session.

The team also received a major boost ahead of the match as captain Sergio Campbell overcame his knee and groin problems to train for the first time in two days.

But midfielder Dino Gardener sat out the evening session after suffering an allergic reaction after eating pineapple-based rice at lunch time.

However, after being treated by the hard-working doctor Carlton Frazier, the allergy had apparently receded, but the player was told to miss the training as a precautionary measure.

    Yup!
I meant exactly what I said - This article zeros in on lack of TEAM defensive work...but all our national squads (cannot call them TEAMs) do poorly on TEAM (That means TEAM attacking and TEAM defending!)

Our U-17s showed that up glaringly. ...and Tappa is correct - It is the local coaching that is NONSENSE!

Saw it all over the place on watching our DPL teams during my recent time at home!
