  • Barcelona lift SuperCopa as Eto'o throws wobbler

    August 21, 2006

Barcelona have collected their first piece of silverware for the new season after routing Espanyol 3-0 in the second-leg of the SuperCopa last night at the Nou Camp.

Barca, who also won the Super Cup last season, have now won the trophy seven times, the same total as arch-rivals Real Madrid.

They will have the chance to add another trophy to their collection when they play UEFA Cup winners Sevilla in the final of the European Super Cup in Monaco on Friday.

Last night's victory was marred by Samuel Eto'o, who stormed out of the stadium after he was substituted for Eidur Gudjohnsen by Rijkaard.

Afterwards, the Dutch coach said: "After a game, it is better not to speak of these things. Samuel has not had a good moment and tomorrow we will speak.

"These are moments of many emotions and it is better to let a night pass before speaking about it.

"One can leave, or one can hide on the field."

However, despite his barb, Rijkaard praised Eto'o: "He worked for the team.

"The truth is that I do not have any doubts about him, nor any complaints in terms of his game."
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
