Hans-Gunter Bruns, head coach at Daniel Gordon's club, Rotweiss Oberhausen, was fired yesterday. Oliver Adler, the assistant coach, will be the interim head coach. The club's CEO also announced he will resign at the end of the season.
Bruns, 56, was hired by Oberhausen in 2007 after the team crashed from the second to the fourth division. Bruns led Oberhausen back to the second division in two years. He took a job in the teams's front office after the 2009 season, but returned to the bench in late 2009 after the team was deep in the relegation zone midway in the season. Oberhausen played much better in the second half of the season, and climbed out of the relegation zone.
RWO lost 3-1 at Osnabruck Sunday. Gordon was not in the lineup. He has been training with the team for two weeks and is expected back soon.
After a 4-1-1 start to the season, injuries besieged the club, and Oberhausen' is now in 16th place at 6-13-4. If the season ended today, Oberhausen would be facing a relegation playoff. Oberhausen is two points behind being safe from relegation, and five points ahead of automatic relegation.
