Sunderland set to swoop for £3m-rated Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller to replace Darren Bent

    By Colin Young
Last updated at 11:07 AM on 20th January 2011
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has started his search to replace Darren Bent by opening talks with Stoke City over a £3m move for Ricardo Fuller

The Black Cats manager met his scouts and coaches on Wednesday for a lengthy discussion on how best to invest the money from Bent’s £24million switch to Aston Villa and they are ready to turn to Fuller, 31, in the short term.

Full of it: Sunderland could bring in Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller to replace Darren Bent

A loan deal for Monaco’s Dieumerci Mbokani, 25, is also an option.
Jamaica forward Fuller, who is troubled by knee problems, would be an ideal solution before the end of the season and would allow Bruce to pursue bigger targets in the summer.

In demand: Sunderland are also keeping tabs on Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia

Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia and Manchester City’s Adam Johnson remain at the fore in Sunderland’s search for an attacking midfielder.
But the chance of taking former Middlesbrough midfielder Stewart Downing from Villa back to the North East has diminished after the Bent spat.

It seems like it is advance as Carew is in talk with Stoke City.

Sunderland agree fee for Stoke City striker Fuller

Fuller made his name at Preston North End where he hit 31 goals in 63 games

Stoke City have accepted a bid of £3m from Sunderland for striker Ricardo Fuller, reports BBC Radio Stoke. The 31-year-old Jamaica international has scored 48 goals in 177 appearances since joining the Potters from Southampton in August 2006.
Sunderland are looking for a striker to replace Darren Bent, who moved to Aston Villa for an initial £18m on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Carlo Nash, 37, has signed a one-year contract extension at the Britannia Stadium.
Fuller, Stoke's leading scorer in each of the last three seasons, has found the net three times in 23 games so far this term.
It is understood that the much-travelled former Crystal Palace, Preston North End and Portsmouth man would not pass a medical on Wearside, but Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is prepared to make a concession.
Fuller has a long-term knee injury, as well as a problem left shoulder, which he dislocated in a 2-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light in February 2009.
In addition to Bent departing for Villa, Sunderland have lost on-loan striker Danny Welbeck for eight weeks after exploratory knee surgery.

With Fraizer Campbell a long-term injury absentee, the Black Cats have only one fit striker, Asamoah Gyan, for Saturday's trip to Blackpool.
Bruce, who criticised Villa boss Gerard Houllier in the wake of Bent's move, said on Thursday: "We've got irons in the fire with four or five. Ricardo Fuller could be one of those.
"I like him. I think he's a player that has done very well in the Premier League. Watch this space."
Fuller is under contract at the Britannia Stadium until the summer of 2012, but is thought to have been keen to renegotiate a wage that would put him on a more equal footing with Stoke's highest earners.
Despite Fuller's potential move, City assistant manager Dave Kemp said on Thursday that the Potters had not received a bid for the striker.
"There's nothing to report," Kemp stated. "An announcement will be made if anyone is leaving but, right now, that isn't the case.
"We're not under any pressure to sell. We're just trying to get a good squad together for the second half of the season."
As a potential prelude to Fuller's departure, Stoke have agreed to sign Villa striker John Carew on loan for the rest of the season.

          Stoke Denies Deal

Stoke deny they’ve done a deal with Sunderland for Ricardo Fuller

Published on Fri Jan 21 18:39:18 GMT 2011

STOKE City insist they have not accepted a £3million offer from Sunderland for Ricardo Fuller.

Reports from the Potteries earlier today suggested Fuller may even be on Wearside today with a view to completing his move.
But negotiations are not at such an advanced stage and the forward trained with Stoke today ahead of his side’s game at Fulham tomorrow.
Sunderland need striking reinforcements with Darren Bent sold to Aston Villa and Danny Welbeck and Fraizer Campbell both injured.

Stoke offer £4m to Birmingham for striker Cameron Jerome

Stoke City are trying to land their second striker in 48 hours after bidding £4m for Birmingham’s Cameron Jerome.
Manager Tony Pulis secured the loan capture of John Carew from Aston Villa on Friday morning.

But that was not enough to satisfy his demand for new forwards and he has now targeted Jerome.

              On the move? Cameron Jerome

Stoke will need to off-load Ricardo Fuller to Sunderland for £3m before completing the deal.

That transfer was still to be concluded on Friday night with Fuller travelling to London for Stoke’s clash with Fulham on Saturday.

Although a price has been agreed between the clubs, Sunderland have yet to agree personal terms with the Jamaican, 31, who is looking for around £60,000-a-week wages.

Birmingham had made an enquiry about Fuller and Stoke’s Tuncay. They have had a second approach for Manchester City’s Jo rejected and manager Alex McLeish is pondering a move for Roman Pavlyuchenko, while Newcastle’s Peter Lovenkrands and Cardiff City’s Jay Bothroyd remain on his radar.

Birmingham’s Spanish midfielder Michel has joined AEK Athens on loan for the rest of the season.

Sebastian Larsson, who has expressed a desire to leave, has rejected an approach from Atletico Madrid.

Sunderland agree price for Stoke striker Fuller
                by Katie Naylor

Stoke City have accepted an offer of £3m from Premier League rivals Sunderland for attacker Ricardo Fuller.

The Jamaican international, 31, has netted 48 times in 177 games after joining the Staffordshire club from Southampton in August 2006. Fuller has been brought in to fill the void left following Darren Bent’s transfer to Aston Villa on Tuesday for an initial fee of £18m.

Fuller was Stoke’s highest scorer in the last three seasons but has only scored three times in 23 appearances so far this season. It is thought that Fuller would fail his medical on Wearside, but the Black Cat’s manager Steve Bruce is ready to make a concession to enable him to bring a striker to the club.

Fuller is suffering from a long-term injury to his knee and also has a problematic left shoulder after dislocating it, ironically during a 2-0 defeat to Sunderland, in February 2009, at the Stadium of Light.

As well as Bent leaving for Aston Villa, Sunderland are without on-loan forward Danny Welbeck for up to eight weeks following an exploratory knee operation. With Frazier Campbell also being out due to a long-term injury, Sunderland only have one fit striker, Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan, for Saturday’s away game at Blackpool.

Fuller’s contract at the Britannia Stadium runs until summer 2012, but it is thought that he wanted to renegotiate so that his wage was on a par with the highest earners at Stoke. However, Stoke’s assistant boss Steve Kemp claimed that the club has not yet received any bids for Fuller.

If this comes to past, then Sunderland will have quite a formidable side. Pulis and Stoke will be heading downwards while Sunderland is heading in the other direction.

Sunderland close on Pavlyuchenko after Redknapp hints at striker's exit

By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 12:16 AM on 23rd January 2011

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is set to land Roman Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham as a replacement for Darren Bent.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp dashed Bruce's hopes of his first choice, Peter Crouch, but has indicated that he is ready to part with Pavlyuchenko.
Redknapp said on Friday: 'I don't want to sell Pav but if someone made the right offer and he wanted to move, I am sure it is something that the club will look at.'

Roman's road to Sunderland: Pavlyuchenko could soon be leaving Spurs

The Russia international has been offered a new deal by Tottenham, but has said he will not be taking the club up on their offer as he wants to be guaranteed first-team football.

'The contract offer doesn't suit me,' said Pavlyuchenko. 'And there are rumours: (Emmanuel) Adebayor is coming to us, then (Andy) Carroll from Newcastle.

'If it proves true, I'm not satisfied with being fourth or fifth choice. I don't want to go back to sitting on the bench.'

Everton and Aston Villa have also expressed an interest in the 29-year-old forward.

Football is a funny thing...Right now Fuller make more in 1 month than Cummings mek in a year and if he makes the transfer he will make more than Cummings and Dane Richards combined in one month. Matter of fact, he will make more than all the national players, combined, playing in the MLS if he transfers. Stretch it little further, he will make more that the whole Jamaica Digicell team pro salary if him transfer.
