SAO PAULO, Brazil — Senior head coach Theodore Whitmore will spend at least 30 days in Brazil in February, as the Jamaica Fooball Federation (JFF) continues its push to expose local talent in Jamaica.
Whitmore, 38, who took over the interim position in 2007 and again in 2009, has had a successful stint to date and the JFF has shown confidence in him with this move as they prepare for the upcoming Gold Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Reid, who was escorted by former Jamaican coaches, Brazilians Walter and Luciana Gama, drove through man-made tunnels which cut a path direct through two mountains.
"So far we are looking to have coach Whitmore spend around 30 days in Brazil at some other top clubs," Reid said.
"... Hopefully again the next couple of day we should be able to finalise on exactly how it's going to pan out, but it's almost complete," Reid revealed.
"I have already spoken with coach Whitmore and he is looking forward to it. As a young coach obviously it is important that he continues to take all the experience that is outside in the professional world and from also different cultures.
"... That helps to bring the balance and the understanding of the different philosophies, especially in a professional environment that is going to help him and also continue to help our development," Reid added.
"We have tremendous confidence in his capacity. We believe that he has all the attributes to be a top class coach and so far he has demonstrated the level of aptitude that has created the belief and confidence from the federation and also from the charges that he has been responsible for," he noted.
Reid said hopefully, Whitmore should be in Brazil after the next FIFA date in February and should bring back a wealth of experience garnered.
The Sunday Observer was a part of the fact-finding team that toured the US$20m (J$1.6b) Sao Paulo facility and Whitmore will be in great hands.
The sprawling Sao Paulo youth academy which boards 130 youngsters, with a staff of 110, has 11 fields and state-the-art equipment — from dentist office to lecture theatre to barber shop, in an all-inclusive facility.
Meanwhile, Reid is also putting the final touches on bringing the National Under-20 men's team here for six weeks.
"So far things are going fairly well, we just need to await the conditions from the centre that we looked at yesterday at Ascor Inn," said Reid.
The Oscar Inn academy is operated by Brazil's 1982 player Oscar Bernardi, who was co-captain with the legendary Socrates.
Reid will also be finalising some quality games for the Under-20s when they arrive in March.
