UPDATE: Omar Cummings Will Be With Aston Villa 'Probably Until March', Gerard Houllier Says
It's starting to look more and more like Omar Cummings will get his first taste of the EPL as Aston Villa has apparently turned their attention to the Colorado Rapids striker as their main loan target. Aston Villa had also been pursuing French midfielder Gueïda Fofana, but those talks have apparently ceased.
Cummings started training with Aston Villa this week and has apparently impressed Gerard Houllier enough that it's looking as if he'll be kept around awhile. The Rapids have said they don't intend to allow Cummings to miss any of the MLS season, but that they'd be open to loaning him until then.
"He will be here probably until March," said Houllier. "We looked at some videos and said we would have him here on trial. He looks quick although he’s a bit jet-lagged."
Playing in Europe would be a first for the 28-year-old. Cummings started his career in his native Jamaica, with whom he has 20 international caps, and found his way to MLS through the college system. Despite being one of the top attacking players in MLS over the past three years, he's still a relative unknown and has yet to get a significant payday. If he can show well, it would at the very least increase the chances of him getting a raise in MLS, where he currently makes less than the league average.
