  • U17 camp extended

    December 30, 2010

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The National Under 17 Training Camp currently in Brazil will be extended for another three weeks to end on January 24, 2011.

The camp which is based at the Traffic Football Academy in Sao Paulo will be transferred to Pousada Clube Serra Negra near Rio Claro.
Jamaica’s National Under 17 training squad is preparing for the CONCACAF Under 17 Championship to be held in western Jamaica beginning February 14, 2011.

Currently twenty-two players and the Technical Staff headed by Coach Wendell Downswell have been on location since December 15th where they have been involved in daily training sessions including on the field tactical and technical preparation; theory work in the classroom; strength training exercises and practice games.

General Secretary of the JFF Horace Reid will be travelling to Brazil on Friday, December 31st to finalize plans for the extended camp and to reinforce the Federation’s support to the players and staff as they prepare for a major event in their football career.

The Federation is also pleased that as per its commitment to the nation, it has secured the support of two tutors who will travel on January 4th to conduct classes and individual tutoring lessons with the players for the entire period of the extension. The two tutors are well accomplished in tutoring at the levels at which the players presently are in school, i.e. from Grade 9 to Grade 11.

The Federation is extremely grateful to former national player and someone who well respected and accomplished in the field of education, Mr. Russell Bell for his assistance in getting the tutors.

Finally there will be a few changes to the delegation currently in Brazil. Head of Delegation, Mr. Everton Tomlinson will return to Jamaica and he will be replaced
by President of the St. Elizabeth FA, Mr. Patrick Malcolm, also a teacher. Further Richard Trench, Ruseas High School Goalkeeper will join the team. All are scheduled to travel on Tuesday, January 4th.

Three players will also return. Romario Thompson for medical reasons and two overseas based players (Shane Hardie and Jevani Brown) will be returning for school related reasons.

I am not sure we should be doing 6 week camps because of a little thing called SCHOOL.

    Three weeks is good.
