Sheffield Utd boss: Davis told me about Shelton

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has revealed he moved for Helsingborg striker Luton Shelton on advice from his Jamaica teammate Claude Davis.

"Whenever we've seen Luton he's played alongside Larsson," Warnock told the Sheffield Star. "He was Helsingborgs' top scorer and so that tells you something about his ability.

"Luton is one for the future, he's got a lot to learn but he's very quick and gives us something different.

"Claude speaks very highly of him and we've also watched him four or five times."

Twenty-one-year-old Shelton has netted once in four appearances for Jamaica.

The Jamaica hit-man was able to tap into the Swedish striker's wealth of experience and is now set to join Manchester United's recent capture in the Premiership.

Although still awaiting international clearance to begin his Blades career, Shelton is surely pencilling April 10 into his diary as Neil Warnock's side travel to Old Trafford on that date.

"Playing with a striker that has played with the best team in the world [Barcelona], I learned a lot from him," explained Shelton to HITZ FM.

"He taught me a lot and me feel more confident playing, giving me the confidence to play anywhere."</DIV>
