  • How Come.....

Luton Sheldon can get ah work permit to play for Sheffield United but just under ah year ago, for life or money. He just couldn't get one to play for Burnley FC ? After all, if he came down to international caps, he still didn't get much of those after de 1 year span between most signings. Tell me what gives ?

    RE: How Come.....

it have to do with the 75% rule. Luton was on the squad for all A games last year.

Based on what I heard he was about 2 games short a year ago.

its easier if you establish yourself in another Euro league first and also I think its more difficult to get a wp for a lower club as in theory the lower club as to answer the question of why they cant find a player domestically for that position.

The FA says you have to have 75% of games for the national team in the past 2 1/2 years. You have to realize that it was 14 months ago he was at Burnley (what I read from the Burnley coach interview). Even if we play 6 games since he was at Burnley on trial, you have to realize that the work permit qualifying time-frame is changing. Hey, if Jamaica had not even played any other game since he was at Burnley, the 14 months forward has now moved the point at which the 75% is counted in the 2.5 years. Therefore, he can qualify now for Sheffield (I think he would now for Burnley too), as his percentage in games would be increasing, although he may not have qualified if Sheffield or another EPL team had filed when Burnley did.

The operative word here is percentage and not some finite number of games. So as the months dropped and the 2.5 years is counted from a later date, things were getting better for Shelton.

Anyway, every dissapointment is for a good. Had he qualified for Burnley, he would have been playin in the Championship in a mid-table team. With this move, he goes straight to a team in the EPL where he can command more money and also have the chance to play first team ball. This is a win win for Sheffield United and Jamaica football. I would not even worry about Burnley.

        Hope I am making sense . . .
