“They have done a big clean out on my knee, so hopefully in a couple of weeks, I’ll be out there and training again. It was stopping me doing things I wanted to do, so I wanted it over and done with. In about four or five weeks I should be back out on the grass and ready to play again.”

        Gardner targets landmark return

RICARDO Gardner believes he will finally reach the 400-appearance milestone by the end of December.

The Jamaica international has been stranded on 399 games since featuring in the Carling Cup game against Southampton in September and picking up a knee injury in training.

With his contract due to expire in the summer, question marks have since been raised over the long-serving midfielder’s future – but Gardner insists he is not done with the club he has proudly represented for the last 13 years just yet.

“The milestone gives me a motivation but seeing the lads out there and doing so well does that too,” he said.

Gardner is also looking forward to resuming an international career that has seen him win 100 official caps for the Reggae Boyz. “I want to get back,” said the Jamaica captain. “Any time they want me to go over and help, I would do.

“They have some good young players coming through, so it would be good to help see them through into a bright future.

“I’m not considering international retirement at the moment.”
