  • FYI - Meal Money/Per Diem

For the Jamaican players who demanded $100 per day, only to fail repeatedly to deliver a corner kick beyond the near goal post:

Major League Baseball players recieve a per diem of $106 per day while on the road. The players are responsible for their own meals, but the host team provides a light -to-medium sized buffet meal after the game. The players then "tip" the clubhouse manager at the end of their three-or-four day stay.

The Rockford (Illinois) Ice Hogs, now in the American Hockey League, produced a video called "Road Hogs" when they were in a lower-level league. Minor league players have a union, called the Professional Hockey Players Association. At the time, players on the road would get $8 for breakfast, $15 for lunch, and $22 for dinner.

The union contract said that if a road trip left before 12 noon, the players
would have to be paid for lunch. The Ice Hogs always left Rockford at 12:30.

Come now Bruce, the per diem for MLB players is chump change compared to their annual wages somewhere around $400K US as a minimum, correct? with respect to the jamaican footballers, even I probably earn more than most of them and my salary is nothing to write home about. Point is the per diem probably represented a good "raise" for many of the players.

The management of the team needs though to look at the deficiencies and per diem or not, those things have to be improved... btw what did you think of the penalty shooting? seems like they worked on that.

      The Phrase Has Been Copyrighted

They did a great job on the penalty shooting.

Unfortunately for Guadeloupe, Ghana has copyrighted the phrase "Here's The Penalty....He Shoots.....HE SUCKS!

penalty shooting was superb... the corner kicks were poor... its a damn shame for the team to win corners and instead of getting the ball in front of the goal, our players are running to get a short corner AND still not sending a cross in... foolishness... tuh much scrimmage ball...

with the exception of the penalties, the corner kicks andthe set plays in general needs work...

What I want to know is why is Luton Shelton taking Corners and free kicks near the corner flag. We have around 3-4 midgets on the team and he decides he is not in the box?

The players, who were offered a US$300 (J$25,800) tournament per diem and 50 per cent of the team's prize money, refused the offer and in the end demanded US$1,200 (J$103,200) and 80 per cent of the US$120,000 (J$10.3 million) prize money, as according to them, they had been representing the country in recent time at a great "sacrifice", and sometimes without pay." Tournament per Diem?
              What does that mean?

              USD300 per day?

...if so, how does that with the additional $50% prize money compare to a flat USD1,200 + 80% of the prize money?

Just asking to see what the so-called stick up was about?

Karl, that is $300 total...not per day.
