the top tiered teams in the world: One concept that eludes us is that coaching at the INT'l level and to be successful at the wc is not soley dependent on technical aptitude (shooting, first touch, accurate passing et al)alone. It's imperative that we begin to look at the psychology of our players, their social backgrounds, their religious beliefs and how it fits in the wc team on a whole. Why? First let's look at France. One of France's training session was for the whole team to climb the Alps. The casual observer may shout and say that's ridiculous, it has nothing to do with football. A more astute look will show that each player is tied to each other for the climb, hence success relies heavily on teamwork. It also forces the players to begin to belive and have confidence in each other. Look at the Italy game; the team ran all their plays through Zidane, even when Zidane loses the ball, once they won it back it's being passed up to him.

The question one may ask is this how can we get in the psyche of our Jakan players? Firstly the whole island has to accept these players, we have to show them that we believe in them and they are not out there because they are the only option right now. This brings us right back to allowing our greatest player to date; Theodore Tappa Whitmore to mingle with our beauty queens. We would be saying that there is no social barries in your way once your perform for the nation (please note that T&T is ahead of us here). Believe it or not these things may seem simple but it is one of the fundamental reeasons why small teams can't get to the semi finals. Lest we forget one documentary split our team in the WC98. This came about because of the class issues that our players carried with them. In their subconscious they knew they weren't really accepted and it was only because we qualified and made history at the time. We should then move to research how to keep unit confined for extended periods and what to do to make them stay focused. This is easy for countries such as the US and other western powers. The US has NASA with huge database on the subject so does Europe with their Army and other entities. Brasil also has this; most may not know this but after WWII a lot of bright minds went to live inBrasil. David Bohm (a leading Physicist back in the 50s) lived in Brasil. Do not under estimate Brasil. It's now safe to say that technique alone does not make world class team (I think this is where we as Jakans are stuck, hence most of our coaches can only be head coaches). Steps have to be made to elevate the social class of our football players (seeing that most of them are from humble backgrounds) this is if we want confident players out there to battle the top teams.

In short we have to get our players ina state of mental readiness before we can even begin to attack the problem of having them confined for extended periods. Look back to tapes and see what happens if a ball is paased to the middle and the midfielder loses the ball. The defenders start to be reckless and boot the ball any place they feel. The solution lies in my arguments above, no amount of drills will not correct this. Under pressure they will crack and resort to this tactic. The prof. saw this and was about to address it. Robinho could not be the quality player thathe is today if it wasn't for the coaching system in Brasil. quote:" talent alone cannot beat Romario and Dunga" You have to be well trained and disciplined :P (Please refer to my scientific american article). Now God help you if you have no training and no talent.
