  • Van der Vaart hails Redknapp's relaxed style

Rafael van der Vaart has praised Harry Redknapp's relaxed style of management, claiming Tottenham's lack of focus on tactics has brought out the best in him.

Van der Vaart has quickly stamped himself as a goalscoring midfielder to be feared since his deadline-day move from Real Madrid to north London in the summer.

Van der Vaart has scored seven times for Spurs already and, after admitting he found football "boring'' under new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, claims Redknapp's more laid-back approach is working wonders for him and the team.
"Harry is a very special man, that's why I already feel at home at Spurs. It feels like I'm back on the street,'' he was quoted as saying in the Sun. "There are no long and boring speeches about tactics, like I was used to at Real Madrid. There is a board in our dressing room but Harry doesn't write anything on it.''

Van der Vaart said that training sessions under Redknapp were also a low-key affair, claiming that their recent successes, such as the memorable win over Champions League holders Inter Milan, were more about about team work than tactics.

"It's not that we do nothing - but it's close to that,'' he added. "For instance, last weekend Gareth Bale scored a header against Blackburn from my corner. But we didn't train one minute on it, it was pure luck. Good kicking, good heading, nothing more. And our win at home over Champions League winners Inter Milan was a clear example of playing on intuition. You can't train the goal I scored in that game.''

Lazie I am going to shock you and tell you that I am not

sold on Van Der Vaart quite yet, yes he is a good player, yes he scores goals and yes he had filled a big gap that we had specially now that Defoe is out BUT I have a funny feeling he could be a head case, I can't prove it yet but my insticts just tell me that.

As for Harry, he is great at managing ego's like Morinho but his tactics and game management are lacking, not surprising he doesn't write on the board or practice certain set play situations.

We'll have to wait and see. I've never heard anything about him being a "head case" during his days in Germany and Spain.

well ..... just that statement alone....no tactics ...just play ball. c'mon! that cannot be true! and if it is true then spurs flatter to deceive....

winning at this level without tactics is going to be sporadic especially where other teams come into the matches prepared.

Agree amd that's why I don't think Harry can take us to the next level.

Get me Guus Hiddink or Frank Rijkaard now.

That is what you call 'indelicate set of statements'.

If results go bad I can just imagine some saying what do you expect when the manager does nothing in training!

Poor Harry! ...Possible now on bended knees -

Can't be really true as Spurs has really improved under Harry and nuff of the players are the same. He however let some of the players express themselves and it worked Bale and Van. You want tell me Huddlestone has lost wieght and improved so he is a perfect example. Harry however is a player's coach and use that tatics.
